I thought the Liberal Party was left of the DNC but right of the Working Families Party.

1. They backed Giuliani
That's how he got elected. The Liberal votes gave him the election both times.

3. I believe they routinely supported Jacob Javitz
the Great GOP Senator who was a hard core liberal--no Republican lite about him--he was a liberal.

5. LaGuardia, Javits, Lindsey, and Giuliani
The Liberal Party started back in the 40's to fight the Democratic machines, but descended into sleazy power brokering. I can't remember the schmuck's name, but one of the prior party leaders used it for personal fundraising and election maneuvering, thereby sending it to it's doom.

It rarely had anybody on its own line, but tipped the scales due to a pretty heavy NYC following when it put the Dem (usually) on its line. Running the retired Javits on its own line as a spoiler to kill the Dem nominee was pretty much the beginning of the end, and the Working Families Party split off from it after they endorsed Giuliani, so last time out it couldn't get the required 50,000 votes to keep a line on the ballot, thank to Andrew Cuomo being the Liberal candidate for Governor, but pulling out of the race and endorsing the Democrat after rethinking a bitter primary battle.

There is no Liberal Party in NY any more, and nobody really misses it.
