Catholics! When you were a kid did you ever adopt a "pagan" baby thru |
|
the church. I did, I had avout 6 of them. It cost about $4.00 each and you could name them and you got a cool certificate. I'm think of writing Benny 16 and find out what ever happened to my pagan babies.

2. I remember the pagan baby drives |
|
I went to Catholic elementary school for a few years, and we were pushed to adopt a pagan baby. You were cool if you adopted one. I wasn't cool...

3. yeap, the classes competed to see who could get the most pagan babies |
|
we named ours after the saints.
one thing, one of the kids got caught stealing money from his parents to pay for the pagan babies and we had an assembly called so the mother superior could tell use not to steal money for the pagan babies.

Catholic elementary school. If you write Benny, please ask him about my pagan babies. thanks :hi:
We also sold holy cards, holy christmas cards, holy candles and cheap, but very holy plastic crosses and symbols.
And don't forget collecting for unicef on Halloween. O8)

5. My husband and I found a "Save the Pagan Babies" |

charm with my metal detector in our backyard. We quickly re-buried it...it's probably the only thing that's been protecting us from terrorists!

6. Adopting pagan babies...now that takes me back |
|
Our class adopted one every year.
But then we got a rabbit that Sister let hop around between the desks during class, so we pretty much forgot about pagan babies.

11. A fundraising hook like Save the Children |
|
The children weren't really adopted. It was just a way to raise money for Catholic missionaries.
Save the Children is the same. They put a face on the fundraising effort by giving you a child to "sponsor," but your regular donations are actually distributed to the family's community. Then you are urged to make special donations directly to the child on holidays and birthdays. You're not so much "saving" that child as you are helping his/her community, and rewarding the child for allowing himself/herself to be used as a marketing device.
It's a rather cynical way to fundraise, but effective marketing is nothing if not cynical.

8. One of my exes WAS the pagan baby |
|
In his school, the smallest kid in the class was called the Pagan Baby, a symbolization of everything Christ died for.
It wasn't so bad, the Pagan Baby always got to be first in line.

Was he warped by it all? I think I would find that sort of a head trip. "I'm the Pagan Baby!"

I named mine "Juliana Elizabeth." I wonder now how the Little Julie's mama in Africa liked some punk kid in NJ renaming her kid...
