KHALDIYAH, Iraq, Sept 18 (AFP) - Cries of triumph and allegiance to Saddam Hussein mixed with the joyous honking of car horns for weddings here Thursday as locals celebrated the ambush of a US convoy on the "highway of death."

About 200 demonstrators gathered at the site where the Americans reportedly took heavy casualties. They brandished bits of US vehicles, hoisted portraits of Saddam and pledged to die for the US-ousted leader.

"With our blood, with our soul, we will sacrifice for you O Saddam," they chanted once the US tanks cleared out from this town 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Baghdad. Others wailed, "Saddam is the glory of my country."

With traditional Thursday evening wedding corteges trying to snake through the crowd, residents here recounted the attack on the convoy, giving it epic dimensions in the telling

It All depends on how you look at it, the Contras were sold to Americans as Freedom fighters, they were on whole the biggest bunch of thugs and criminals I have ever met(no wonder the republicans loved them), The Mhuhajadeen in Afghanistan were Freedom fighters in the late 70's and through the 80's But in 2001 we were calling them Terrorists.

It may be convenient to label the Guerillas in Iraq "Terrorists" simply because they are shooting at American Soldiers it does not really serve the interests of our Soldiers or give credit to the force of Iraqi nationalism (something the British have a history with and ignored in its rush to suck up to our chickenhawk resident).

Its not an act of terror to use the weapons and tactics that work in a given military situation. We have super modern tanks, aircraft, and sensors The opposition in Iraq has a bunch of old AK-47s and a whole lot of explosives. what would you do in their situation? become a sympathizer for the occupation?

Sadam was a bastard but he was/is the Iraqi's peoples bastard, No government governs without the will of the people not dictatorships not democracies. If the Iraqi people wanted to be rid of Sadam it was their job to do it not ours.
