What would it take ... Plaid Adder? |
|
Excerpt: THEY'VE DUCKED TAXES, conspired to rig elections, cut their friends in on land deals and our enemies in on arms deals, produced illegitimate children, and had lots and lots of extramarital sex. http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~45~1638098,00.html

1. I ask myself the same question. |

Basically, I think it's gonna be a long time before we have a president who's not white and male. Kennedy broke the Catholic barrier but he only barely made it and there's still people who feel that without some help from dead people in Chicago it wouldn't ever have happened.
But I don't think it's just the electorate; I think it is the party machinery. I mean look how long it took to get a woman as House minority leader. A woman Speaker of the House? Oh my God, lock the doors and hide the china. Till we get some women in positions of party authority I think it's always gonna be like this.
Or, we could always introduce a viable third party...nah. That never works.
It does say something about this country that all our leaders have been men. Even England had Thatcher (not necessarily a good thing, but still). Closest we've ever gotten is Madeleine Albright.
I would never say that just electing a woman would solve all of our problems. If women ran the world it would not be paradise--but it would be DIFFERENT. We can be as cruel, selfish, manipulative and nasty as the boys, but we generally do it differently. And most of us are not socialized to respond to stress and danger by using physical violence, which is somethign I think would come in handy right now.
Ah well,
The Plaid Adder
