Is our government run by bribery? |
|
I just saw Jesse Ventura on t.v. saying that the way we finance elections we get a government run by bribery. That campaign donations are a form of bribery. I've never heard it put this way before but he's right. How are we ever going to get a government that can serve the people and not spend its time soliciting and paying back bribes?

He's right. It is one the the very few things that he is right about. Don't see an alternative. Not without some serious campaign finance reform. And that won't happen while Dubya is pissing up the White House. Which brings us back to problemo numero uno.

2. Actual campaign finance reform, not that crap they put through |

take ALL the money out of it.
The various Media will publish the position statements and/or platforms of the various candidates. People will read and decide.
Debates if someone wants to stage them (at their expense and including everyone running).
No TV. No consultants. No campaign organizers. No buttons. No stickers. No negative ads. No hundreds of millions of dollars. No spending half your time raising money (get all you pay for out of your rep)
Just the facts Jack. Just the candidate and his/her vision.
Want to let the candidate pay his own way to travel around and give speeches ? OK. Want to keep that campaign donation on the tax form to pay for these speeches ? OK.
That should do it.
