CBS News: SHOCKING statistics... real NEWS!!

two stunners:

40 ATTACKS on US troops in 24 hour period. and specifically COMBAT attacks.

800 Iraqi civilians a month DEAD. more than the previous year. utter lawlessnes. and kidnappings. heartbreaking interview with Iraqi family whose young son was grabbed off the street.

they blame Iraqi police and 'the Americans' who DO NOTHING

wow!

(this is not about CLARK and, so, will vanish in less than 3 minutes. but this was encouraging and seems to be a trend on all three network evening broadcasts.

they are questioning W and questioning W's (fraud) 'war'

1. this stuff sickens me
Honestly, being so pissed off at this fraudulent garbage probably has taken years off my life. I hope they bury our administration this next year. I doubt any of the mainstreamers got the dash to truly do it, yet I can dream anyway. It's about time.

it will be ignored. So while thousands die, some fools are worried about who Dem candidates may have voted for 20 years ago. We need to get Bush out. I was shocked to hear those numbers, I heard Robert Fisk report that in Baghdad that 20-30 a night arrive in the morgue. Thats incredible. Its good that this is finally getting some airtime on American news.

9. Gee. I didn't think they allowed the media
to report the news anymore.

Is this a Friday afternoon news dump to the smallest audience that watches network news?

Why not a "special" during prime time?

Would this be considered unpatriotic by the junta?

17. "Is this a Friday afternoon news dump" ??? NO!

not at all. I had given up on most "news" programs. lately, I've been surfing the 6:30 EST newscasts and I've been stunned (and started a few threads!) about the re-awakening of the network news.

they have been HITTING Bush, Cheney, Rummy, the 'war', conditions for soldiers.....

and I mean ALL THREE NETWORKS. I just happened to lock on CBS tonight because of the two points posted in the first post

He told them this week he lied about SH and 9/11.

I get so sick of hearing "Clinton lied under oath." The only reason Bush hasn't lied under oath is because no one has asked him one, single effing question under oath. That has to stop!

More letters to Congress.

27. Ive always wondered
since the "truth" is SOOOOO important to us, why dont Americans demand every president be put under oath before any major speech? At least that would spare us the problem of seeing Bushs monkey face on the TV, either that or we could charge him with 1000000 counts of perjury.

46. when a president is elected
he or she takes an oath of office. one of the stated requirements of that office is that the president must give a state of the union address every year to share the truth with the American people.

Has any other president ever lied so blatantly about issues of national security in a SOTU? Did Johnson lie outright about Vietnam in a way which he surely knew about when he was prez?

I just wonder if there is any precedent for a president to lie to the American people in the one address he or she is required to give over an issue of such magnitude.

45. check www.congress.org - directory section. GO TO IT!
The directory section can provide you the phone numbers of EVERYBODY on Capitol Hill. EVERYBODY. House and Senate! Local AND their DC offices (which were closed down today because of the hurricane). So, in that case, call locally!

Please! I hope to God I'm not the only one doing this!

They have GOT TO KNOW that we absolutely agree with what Ted Kennedy said - that this war is a FRAUD and so much of the money we're spending every month is unaccounted for - for bribes, maybe.

You can bet they're hearing from the hate radio mavens, who do this enmasse. They need to hear from those NOT on the Dark Side. Folks like US!!!!!!!

Demand an investigation! Demand answers to ALL of our questions! Demand that the stonewalling stop! Heck, do what Springsteen recommends - IMPEACH THE BASTARD!!!!

18. Kick, a real GD thread
This seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on. One thing that people need to bear in mind is all of the raids that take place. Soldiers are bursting into peoples home looking for combatants. Granted, this probably will eventually save the lives of US troops when combatants are herded up, one cannot overlook the new wave of Anti-Americanism that this potentially spreads.

The biggest problem with the post-9/11 climate is how we see ourselves. FReepers don't want to worry about why 9/11 might have happened (after all, they know why: terrorists hate our freedom). All they want is to punish anyone who looks like the attackers. This, however, fuels hatred and contempt of the United States, which builds a climate that led to 9/11 in the first place.

BTW, did you know that Gen. Clark is not only a war criminal, but is also Jesus Christ? He is the alpha and the omega, he is good and evil, the yin and the yang. He will lead the US to salvation, but will lead us to the brink of destruction. He is a riddle wrapped in an enigma....

The Roving Eye

(JUST) ALIVE AND KICKING IN BAGHDAD

By Pepe Escobar

BAGHDAD - "Saddam is in Baghdad." The former University of Baghdad student, recently graduated, is adamant. "Here he is very well connected, and as he has so much money, he can bribe anybody," adds another.

(SNIP)

Baghdadis once again listen to that ghostly voice from the past with cool detachment. But what the former students are saying basically mirrors what a Jordanian intelligence source with extensive contacts in Iraq told Asia Times Online in Amman. Colonel Joe Anderson, commander of the 101st Airborne's 2nd Brigade in Mosul, is searching the wrong place, in the Kurdish north of the country. "Elvis" - as the GIs call him - has not left the building. Elvis-Saddam continues to operate in the bowels of the Iraqi capital itself.

(SNIP)

The convergence of views between Baghdad students and the Jordanian intelligence official is remarkable - and is widely shared by the popular voice of the bazaars. The perception is that "the Americans" engineered both the UN bombing that killed special envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello, and the Najaf bombing that killed Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Baqr al-Hakim (the Jordanian insists the Israeli Mossad was responsible for the Hakim bombing, which benefits the Americans by splitting the Shi'ites and pitting Sunnis against Shi'ites). All agree on what the US agenda is: to maintain a perpetual state of chaos, enforce the control of the fabulous Iraqi sources of energy, and use this new, sprawling military base in the heart of the Middle East to harass Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

SNIP

The resistance will get much stronger - and this has nothing to do with Saddam's flurry of cassettes. There seems to be an overall consensus in Baghdad that most Sunnis are on "wait and see" mode for two more months before they switch overwhelmingly to guerrilla struggle. And the Shi'ites will also be waiting for another two months. This seems to be the final window of opportunity for the CPA and the Governing Council to alleviate the daily hell faced by the Iraqi population.

51. the Bushies have shown themselves incapable
They are clearly incompetent because they were not willing to face reality...or those who knew reality were also lying about that to the American people...

at this point, I don't know which one seems more feasible.

They had no viable exit strategy.

They had no coalition which support from the Iraqi people. They apparently thought they would be able to waltz into Iraq and install their puppets and no one would mind?????

of course, if America is their basis for comparison, that's what they did here in 2000, so maybe they really did believe their own b.s. Not to mention their refusal/failure to truly address issues of national security within America's borders.

They lied about the amount of time and money required, or else they were incompetent.

Either way, they have gotten us into such a mess, at such a bad time to do so, it's too bad they can't be run out of Washington on the backs of greased pork bellies.

They have made the world a more dangerous place for now, and it appear for years to come.

add to this...they haven't secured Afghanistan, nor taken the Taliban out of power enough to ensure the liberty of the people there who suffered under those assholes which we armed and supported for years.

the one thing they have done, of course, is the deal to run a pipeline from Afghanistan to Pakistan. India needs to come on board next, but seems they will since Israel is making overtures to India.

you know, I just had a creepy thought. what if bin Laden is still a CIA operative and he has a deal with the Bushies. His attack gave them the pretext to invade Iraq...he also benefits because he hates Saddam because he's a secular ruler...or a threat to muslim nations.

the 9-11 attack also allowed the invasion of Afghanistan so that the Unocal pipeline could be built..

America is talking about Syria in terms of an invasion...another secular regime, and then there's Saudi Arabia...which may or may not be aligned with bin Laden. Maybe he wants the house of bin Laden to replace the house of Saud.

okay, that was a moment when my imagination ran away with me. but some parts of the whole idea, considering our nation's history of blowback/continued bad policy/secret agreements with despicable leaders (Pinochet, The Shah, those Central American nasties...)

The Bushies have lied so often, it's easy to wonder what the truth may be, though.

they have an audience of around 30 million. FAUX has about 2 or 3 mil at the most. We get so upset with the O'Lielly's and the Tweety's etc., but they have a very small, partisan audience. The Big 3 are very important in getting this war info out to the general American public.

60. Consider the absurdity
Iraq has dissolved into chaos. Forty combat attacks in 24 hours against U.S. forces. Americans are dying in larger numbers than ever before. Eight hundred Iraqis dead every month.

Yet the republicans view it as a "perception problem."

If they correct the media, they will correct the problem.

Abso-effing-lutely incredible.

Cher
