Will we loose some of our top scientists? |
|
I'm wondering if some of our top scientists will leave the U.S. to continue the much needed research in stem cell research. Scientifically, this country is going backwards instead of forwards.
The political arena leaves one no alternative, one must either be a dunce or a rogue. Author: Emma Goldman 1869-1940, American Anarchist :banghead:

1. You'll either loose the scientist or you'll loose the linkages such |
|
industry would produce.
I'm not so hot on stem cells unless they come from places where they already exist. And by that I mean thousands and thousands of lines that are available to us all over the world in one medical field or another.

3. I can tell you that we no longer attract the 'brains' |
|
I've talked to science students at our local university and they have no plans of staying here. They also say their friends back home have no desire to study or live in the US. One of the big drivers in our economy has always been technology and innovation. The US was always the leading edge and its free society attracted the likes of Einstein and Fermi in the past. Now we are not so attractive. Leadership is slipping to Europe, S. Korea and China. That's my uninformed opinion anyway.

5. Harvard opened a privately funded research lab for stem cell research. |
|
They receive no federal funds at all, but how many places can afford that?

7. If I were a top scientist, |
|
and I had the means to go somewhere where I would not be persecuted and could continue my work in peace, I would do it.
We are going backwards in all arenas. The public school system and *'s No Child Left Behind bullshit have cripped our children's minds. If they are to know critical thinking and hard science, we (parents) will have to teach them.
