NEWS: FBI Records Cite Quran Abuse Allegations
As McClellan flip-flops and says he never said that Newsweek caused deaths. So the government now acknowledges they knew about these allegations three years ago.

====

WASHINGTON - Terror suspects at the Guantanamo Bay prison told U.S. interrogators as early as April 2002, just four months after the first detainees arrived, that military guards abused them and desecrated the Quran, declassified FBI records say.

"Their behavior is bad," one detainee is quoted as saying of his guards during an interrogation by an FBI special agent in July 2002. "About five months ago the guards beat the detainees. They flushed a Quran in the toilet."...

Separately on Wednesday, Amnesty International urged the United States to shut down the prison, calling it "the gulag of our time." White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the human rights group's complaints were "unsupported by the facts" and that allegations of mistreatment were being investigated....

In an April 6, 2002, FBI interrogation, one of the detainees said guards had been "pushing them around and throwing their waste bucket at them in the cell, sometimes with waste still in the bucket, and kicking the Quran."

6. Yeah, they need to watch what they do too! And if I was
Director Mueller I'd get hold of Scotty McClellan right away and find out what the FBI needs to do to atone for their transgressions. What kinds of things should they be saying? What kinds of things should they be doing?

Mr. Mueller, call Scott ASAP. He probably has a lot of ideas of how FBI can correct this.

13. Yes, corrective action is most certainly required.
Hopefully it's not some kind of Yakuza-style ritual where you have to slice off your own finger or something. That would suck. What I heard, but can't vouch for, is that one must shave their head bald and present themselves before the Dear Leader, bowing down so that The Chosen One can rub the newly shaven pate, and then all is forgiven.

Not sure if that's true or not, but if it is that would be pretty weird, huh?

:)

But this will only make Bush dig his heels in more, and his mesmerized cult followers to follow suit.

criminal enterprise. Oh, and guess what, his brother is now in charge of CMS - medicare - so that he can now cover up the drug benefit rip-off that was orchestrated by big pharma.

Hmmm. Why anyone would rate it less than 5 stars is beyond me, after all of the Newsweek hoopla.

20. CNN Article Too
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/25/gitmo.quran/index.html

Quote from article:

"There have been allegations made by detainees," McClellan said. "We know that members of al Qaeda are trained to mislead and to provide false reports.

Do Repugs have some course that teaches them to talk like this?

Read any freeper site with articles or administration officials talking and you hear over and over crap like this.

Stuff like "There has been some attacks in Iraq"... "We know Al Qaeda will do anything to strike at the U.S."

They are not actually saying they know Al Qaeda is in Iraq or that they know they have Al Qaeda members at Guantanamo (because they don't know either one) but the mush heads out there all hear it that way. *sigh*

Ignorance is bliss for some... I guess.

32. Liar
<I>"There have been allegations made by detainees," McClellan said. "We know that members of al Qaeda are trained to mislead and to provide false reports.</I>

When you apply to be press secretary, if you don't lie a dozen times in the interview they don't think you seriously want the job. Whether Scott is "trained to mislead" or just does it by natural talent, he does the exact thing he warns about in others.

a quote like that with:

"But Mr. McClellan, as the Bush administrations White House press secretary aren't you trained to mislead and provide false reports, too?"

26. Read it - Raite it - EMAIL IT!!!...
If enough people email it, the story should then also show up on the "most emailed stories" listing.

Who in all the hells (of which this may indeed by the 5th ring) can possibly still give any support to these murderous thugs?

Or looking at it another way:

How many people would buy tickets to watch St. Peter slam the doors to heaven shut in these criminals faces when their day comes?

Kickin' and passing on...

I really don't think that particular ritual has anything to do with forgiveness...

I think Dubya just really misses the Bulldog.

34. Larry Dorito -snip-
Lawrence Di Rita, chief spokesman for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, said Wednesday that U.S. military officials at Guantanamo Bay had recently found a separate record of the same allegation by the same detainee, and he was re-interviewed on May 14. "He did not corroborate his own allegation," Di Rita said.

Yet in the very next graph:

Di Rita said U.S. commanders have documented a number of cases in which detainees tore pages out of a Quran, or ripped off the cover, and then blamed the guards. This was designed, he said, to stir outrage among other detainees and disrupt the order imposed by the guards.
