Update from BradBlog - Andy Stephenson in Recovery after 7.5 hours surgery
Edited on Wed May-25-05 05:07 PM by Nothing Without Hope

Word on Andy Stephenson...

I've received word from Johns Hopkins where our friend Andy Stephenson, who has been tireless for years in his efforts to fight Election Fraud in this country, has just completed 7.5 hours of surgery.

He has come through the surgery successfully and his tumor was removed. He is currently in Recovery and on his way to Intensive Care shortly.

I have been asked to keep further details of the surgery and his further prognosis private as of now. It has been requested, however, that I pass along the news above for those who are concerned about him, and, as well, to ask everyone to say their prayers for Andy at this time.

Blogged by Brad on 5/25/2005 @ 1:43pm PT...

One main thread on Andy's current status is here (started by Skinner):
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3727112

Late in this long thread bettyellen posted:
"He's out after 7 hours and groggy........
the docs say please leave him be- no phone calls until saturday."

A second main thread on Andy's condition is here (started by sfexpat2000)

1. Shouldn't that say, "in the ICU after 8 hours..."

3. Yes, you're right - I said it wrong and have fixed it. Thanks.
I thought it would be helpful to get a flash update here - the long thread with the real information as it came is linked to iin the opening post here. That thread began with Skinner assuring people that Andy was indeed having surgery at Johns Hopkins, and its title reflected that.

12. Thanks for the info!
Now the long, hard recovery begins. I hope he has someone helping out at home.

15. Glad he's out of surgery.
Hope he gets sprung from the hospital ASAP too.

I stayed in one with my dad. Those places poke you and prod you and make noise and turn the lights off and on 24/7. My dad had to go home to rest!

Anyway, get well, go home and rest, Andy! In any order that works for ya.

18. I'm not sure how long he'll be staying out there
but once we have a time line, I'm going to organize a food and care group out here in Seattle. I might as well have something I learned as a Southern Baptist child to good use.

(SBs, while crazy, are really big on supporting their fellow congregation members when they are sick)

22. Great! Do you think they'd be willing to help him with his garden work?
Edited on Wed May-25-05 08:32 PM by Nothing Without Hope
He shouldn't do much work in it for a while, like weeding and such. On several occasions he's mentioned how happy he feels when he's in his garden. Good place to heal and be - literally - grounded. After everything he's been through, I like the idea of him sitting in the sunshine out there - though, being in Seattle, perhaps I should visualize clouds? :)

23. Few clouds in the summer
I'm a gardener too. If that's what he needs, that's what he'll get.

26. May I suggest that it be suggested to him? He might not ask - it's a
"luxury." If you start to discuss gardening with him it might lead in a direction where the suggestion could be made. I really think it would be good for him and fun for the person helping him. Wish I were close enough to do it - I sent him some gardening books, but I can't go there myself.

14. yes, it's awful how he had to wait so long to have that tumor removed
Must have been terrible, knowing it was inside him.

But now it is GONE and he can finally concentrate on getting well. He couldn't do that before, it was just a long, anxious, painful, exhausted ordeal that kept going on. That part of the story is finally over.
