Angry freeper tries to run me off the road. |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 11:52 AM by Liberal_Guerilla
Yesterday my wife and I were driving down some rural country roads out in freeperville Oregon. I noticed an old man with a buzz cut following way to close for my comfort. I was doing the speed limit of 45.
He then began to pass me on a double yellow line, and I slowed down and pulled to the right in order to give the moron as much room to kill himself with as possible. As he and his Buick ripped around me, the old fuck violently flips me the bird and mouths all sorts of vicious obscenities. Which left me dumbstruck, since he was the one putting all of our lives at risk.
Now, I don't drive a VW bus with dancing bears all over it, I drive a white ford f-150 with only one sticker on my back window. A member of Oregon Public Broadcasting(OPB) sticker. I have been trying to think of why I got the reaction I got and that is all I can think of. Jeez, I can't imagine if I put my DU sticker on my truck, I probably would have been shot.
Anyway, I think that the changing tides for the freepers is making them desperate and even more violent than usual. They can't stand the fact that they are wrong and have always been on the losing side of history, Always.
Moral of the story is, be careful out there, we're dealing with sick people here.

But out here in rural Oregon, Everything is political. On these country roads, numerous farms have huge bill boards on them that say U.S. out of the United Nations, they want your guns. And other stupid things. And the flags still fly out here.

Athough freeps are usually assholes, we mustn't assume every asshole is a freep. Life's stressful enough as it is without creating additional monsters.

And I can tell you that I have never seen such bad driving in my life, and I am a professional city bus driver. These people run red lights like it's just a suggestion. They really don't know how to drive.
Perhaps, when you drive like a moron for your whole life and then get surrounded by decent drivers, you don't know how to handle it.

|
Not everyone here drives like a moron for life.
This fifth-generation Oregonian drives just like you describe. He also has a DU bumper sticker, and has never been hassled in two years.
Since there are ten Californians for every Oregonian, I'd bet there are ten times as many shitty drivers in California.
Nonetheless, I'm glad you're here :-) since you will vote Democratic
You met up with the same kind of idiot you could meet anywhere.

It does sound politically neutral, though. Unless perhaps the OPB is a well know hotbed of traitorous liberalism out there in Oregon. I can't imagine freepers being smart enough to make such connections. Now if you had a more blatant Bush bashing bumper sticker (amazing amounts of alliteration)maybe there is a case to be made for mad freeper activity.

15. Drive defensively. I've had similar problems with nuts. |
|
I think part of it is frustration, but also believe that Chimpy's invasion sort of opened the floodgates, kinda validated the idea of being violent with others as an okay solution. Studies show that murder and suicide increase during times of war, and I don't think it's due completely to the stress that is caused... I think some observational learning goes on. In Bush's case, we could say: Monkey see, monkey do.

I've done 70-75 on 65-limit Massachusetts highways, passing everyone in the slower lane next to me, and still been cursed, 'saluted', and almost run into by fools who think it's their right to do 95 unimpeded. (Usually, but not always, they have a NH licence plate)

I have 3 bumper stickers: Impeach Bush, Vote for Kucinich, and Democratic Underground. I have noticed that I am getting less attitude lately. In fact, I am usually the one doing the gesturing. Your everyday brainwashed sheeple gets a thumb down for pseudo-patriotic crappola. The Humvee drivers and good old boys flying two 3x5 foot American flags in the bed of their pickups get either the partially open, pumping fist (jerk-off), or the bird.

35. Some people just get weird |
|
when they drive.
A year or so ago I was driving on an unfamiliar road and discovered it was a dead end, so I pulled over to the shoulder off the pavement to let a car that was behind me pass(there were a few houses further on). The other driver, a woman problably in her 30's or 40's pulled over about 5 or 10 yards behind me. I waited a few moments and she didn't move, so I did. I started up and made a U-turn. For some reason that really ticked her off - she started to move just a second or two after I did. I guess she figured I should have just kept waiting until she decided to go. Anyway, she makes her U turn and speeds up, passing me by about 20 mph over the speed limit in a no-passing zone. I could see her screaming and shaking her fist at me.
What was that all about????? I even used my signals 'n everything. Maybe she was angry because she followed me into a dead-end street. Or maybe she was angry I didn't wait for her. I still have no idea what ticked her off. I think she was just crazy.
Like I said, some people get weird when they drive.

36. It's been my experience, on Oregon highways... |
|
...that the average speed is 10 - 15 above the posted speed limit, which is probably why ODOT isn't in any hurry to raise the speed limit on highways, since it would be merely a "formality" in practice anyway. Also, I rarely seem to see Highway Patrol on any roads outside of I-5 or US 26 west of Portland.
Now if you want to see true maniac drivers, try Utah or Colorado. Those people are psychotic!
