I Just Took The Gallup Poll... |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 03:15 PM by liberalmuse
I guess they do call liberals. I answered that I strongly disapproved of the job Bush was doing (I repeated it because the lady sounded like she said, 'How much do you approve of Bush?'--'NO, I DISAPPROVE, that's DIS-AP-PROVE."). I also answered that I thought monuments to religion should not be displayed in public buildings--I would rather have them phrase the question using 'government-funded' buildings, but that choice wasn't offered. Now that I think of it, no, I don't want to see religious symbols all over the place in public. I didn't like the questions on religion because they were black and white and I'd rather answer neutral on most of those. Oh yeah, Dean was my first choice for Pres., and I disapprove of Ashcroft, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and think France is our ally, Saudi Arabia is our enemy, and no, Saddam didn't have anything to do with 9-11. That was the gist of it--no trick questions other than the religion ones and a couple of trade questions on China that I didn't like.
On edit: I forgot: Yes, the Republicans are in fact trying to subvert democracy with the recall, impeachment, etc.

I think she asked for 3 choices in order, but I can't remember. I know I said, 'Kucinich or Clark'. Then she named all the candidates, including Lieberman, and asked, '____ or Bush?' I answered '_______', even when it came to Lieberman over Bush, and I don't regret it.
On edit: oops...

8. Salt Lake City, Hmmmmm. |
|
Now that's an interesting question! Bet they didn't think they could find a liberal in SLC (though in truth, there are a lot of liberals in the city itself, though I live just outside the city limits, where liberals are scarce.)
BTW, with the 'approve or disapprove' question, first the lady asked if I approved or disapproved of the job Bush was doing. I clearly said 'disapproved', but she came back with, 'So how much do you approve of Bush, very strongly, moderately...?' That is why I kept repeating that I disapproved.

Aside from stratafying for region, they have no specific places they call. Gallup also uses RDD which means your number just happened to come up randomly and be put in the sample.

'How much do you approve of Bush?' is a trick (read: loaded, biased) question.

"He should should be impeached" wasn't an option this time, but maybe it will be next month.

9. I agree with most everything so far except for |

Saudi Arabia being our enemy. This is being spewed by the same neocons that spouted all the garbage and lies about Iraq.

at least 30,000 members of DU and then some.
I once had a few Arbitron books, and I shouldn't have really. I was working in advertising and was very close to all the radio station folks in denver/boulder/ft collins - this was back in 93 long before Clear Channel gobbled up my beloved alternative station "KTCL" -
Of course I totally slanted it towards KtCl and low and behold - those 3 books made their ratings go thru the roof baby.
I think I speak for all of us when we say Jolly Good

14. Hopping freight trains through Utah |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 04:45 PM by Oracle
years ago, brought me to Salt Lake City and Ogden Utah, those cities didn't seem to me to have too many liberals (if any) then, (seemed way too conservative for me) so I got the fuck out of there and back home to N CA (Tahoe, at that time) But what I always remember is the train I hopped, stopped on this bridge and it was a hot, hot day and I jumped off the train and into the Great Salt Lake below...and then got blown away...you can't sink in that lake (because of all the salt)...lie on your back all day with a beer and you just don't sink. So I got out of the lake (because the train whistle was blowing) I hopped back on the flat car, where my backpack was and I realized, man did I smell like shit, (the lake was/is polluted) and my eyes burned like crazy for a long while. My only time in Utah...met a few great people hitching through the state, on that trip though.
There's liberals in every big city...but those aren't the real Americans says the pigman!
