You need to read this. Found it on a Liberal Christian site!
People like George W. Bush, on the other hand, despise "liberals". They say things like:

"The national government will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests. It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality. Today Christians stand at the head of our country. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press-in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during recent years."

Adolf Hitler. ( in his first radio address to the German people after coming to power July 22, 1933; from My New Order, The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1, pp. 871-872, Oxford University Press,London, 1942.)

There's a lot of info on this site that liberals really need to use to convince the "religious right" they really are not following Jesus' teachings, and are NOT Christians in action at all!

3. Did you take the time to look at the site?
I got 4 sites like this from another post on DU. All of them are "Democratic or Liberal Christian sites" and do a very good job of explaining why the extreme RW aren't really Christians promoting Christianity, but selecting certain statement out of the Bible that fit their agenda.

I really believe this is the answer for the Dems. Stop avoiding talk of religion, but explaining how the RW agenda isn't anything even close to true Christianity!!!!

7. Here is the home page.
http://www.liberalslikechrist.org/politicalmenu.htm

Click on the link that says "What is a Liberal anyway?"

It's a long read, but really common sense explainations that the Dems need to be able to do.

19. they need to see it with their own eyes
They've all been indoctrinated to believe that mainstream religions are not true Christianity, but that theirs is. Mainstream religions are seen as "worldly", and "dead". They don't think people in mainstream churches are necessarily going to heaven, etc.

The best hope will be for them to see the hypocrisy of the right wing, and see that Bush's pious words don't match his actions as president. they need to compare their teachings with how Bush is acting, and be honest about it. It will take a while.

9. I'm still reading at that site, but I had to post this clip!
Liberalism is NOT against religion per se ( but many liberals have problems with religion as practiced in many times and places, as did Jesus of Nazareth as well. And for that reason, so-called "men of God" had Jesus executed.)
It's a misrepresentation to say that "Liberals" are against morality, against responsibility, against religion. Liberals are indeed against traditional morality and/or religion, because of the way "Conservatives" have taken over and contaminated those moral and religious values and institutions.

Can you give me a link to the correct page or otherwise send me in the right direction?

13. Here's how to find it.
Go to the link:
http://www.liberalslikechrist.org/politicalmenu.htm

The first chapter highlighted in a brown background box is titled "Day in the Life of Joe Middle Class.

The second chapter is titled What was so Evil about these Liberals?

At the very end of this chapter, and just above the one titled "Martin Luther Kink Jr. is the clip that I copied with the Hitler quote.

You should be able to find it pretty easy.

If not, maybe this is what we hae to use in the mainstream to comfront them. Wouldn't ya just love to see a speechless Pub on national TV stuttering and trying to figure out just what to say?

20. Remember Scotty McClellan's non-response to the 10 commandments question?
A reporter had asked his response to 'thou shall not kill' as it pertained to the war on Iraq... He responded my saying nothing and moving on to the next reporter's question.

21. HA! No I don't think I hear that one, but I'd love to pose a good
theological question to him. Lots of Pubs listen to his every word...guess because they think he's speaking for their fearless leader.

I'd love for some reporter to read my original quote, ask for his response, and then STATE who the author was!

23. I would love to see this quote used.
... I don't know if it would be possible to get anyone associated with BushCo to answer it but I'm sure some pundit like Hannity or Rush or a fundie like Robertson or Falwell would bite.

BTW, here's the video of the press conference where Scotty is asked the question about the sixth commandment. You'll have to scroll about 75% through to see it -- as far as I can tell, there's no listing of elapsed time.

This is a powerful antedote to the poison pushed

26. Thank you for this. All too many parallels with the Nazis' methods:
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 11:21 AM by Nothing Without Hope
The Nazis pretended to be very Christian, so that their appeal was multifold. For example:

  • Nationalism - "our country is the best in the world"
  • Christian "moral values"
  • Appeal to bigotry of all kinds - they killed homosexuals and other "undesirables" like the Rom (gypsies) as well as Jews in the Holocaust and racism was state policy
  • Imposed belief that only following their orders would keep people safe and the nation strong - much fear- and hate-mongering kept this going
  • Overwhelming propaganda and control of news access - truth excluded
  • Equation of agreement with patriotism - and vice versa

Any of this sound familiar?
