John Lennon's Strawberry fields to close. The Childrens Home
immortalised by the Beatles is broke and is shutting down. The building is to be demolished and the land "developed". Probably with a "new exciting development" like some shops.

2. Not really, it slips by on a technicality...
...as any spin doctor would tell you. 'Strawberry Field' is closing. 'Strawberry Fields', in Central Park, is still around.

3. But the song had nothing to do with that one. John Lennon is dead but he
lives because an American Lennon theme park has been built?

5. I was being sarcastically "republican"
What Lennon "theme park"??? It's just a bit of land in a public park that's been dedicated to Lennon, directly across the street from where he was murdered, and was his and Yoko's favorite place in the park. When I hear "theme park" I think of things like 'Dollywood' and 'Wally World', and Strawberry Fields is most assuredly not that.

The one word, 'Imagine', is the only direct reference to Lennon. Not quite a waterslide.

6. "Strawberry Fields" is hardly an American Lennon theme park
It's a memorial in Central Park, NY. It's actually quite subtle, considering Yoko Ono was involved...

7. The bits are probably worth more on Ebay
The whole place could sell worldwide, brick by brick.

Mediocrity forever.

4. Where's his son? Where's his wife?
If they don't care, then where's McCartney? If none of these seriously wealthy people care to keep this open, then I'll chalk it up to them "busy, got other things to do, places to go, people to see, etc.".

How horribly sad.

9. Julian Lennon doesn't have the money to do anything. He's just a working
musician/actor, nor does his mom, Cynthia. It's Yoko and Sean who have the resources.

10. Why sad?
From the BBC story:

The building was saved from closure in 1984 by a cash donation from his widow Yoko Ono.

When The Salvation Army gave two years' notice in January that the home was closing, there were still three children living there.

Two of the children were placed in foster care earlier this year and the last child has now moved out, with the placement in the hands of Liverpool's social services.

The Christian charity said it was "now preferable for children to be cared for within a foster family or in a small group home, rather than within large residential institutions".

Which sounds very reasonable to me.
