Until Reagan came along! He was way worse. I'm still not sure W was worse than Reagan. Pretty tight race, that one.

15. * first, then Reagan, then Nixon.....
Then comes Hoover and poppy bush in the list of all time worst presidents. Nixon was horrible, but he looks like a Saint compared to reagan and shrub. He did, after all, create the EPA and start up talks with China again. He was pretty bad, but nothing compared to raygun and shrub.

18. That's why I believe Reagan was the worst ever. Even when Nixon
was president, there was still the idea that the president was president of the whole country, not just his party. Nixon ran the country, but with a partisan bias, as all presidents before him had done.

Reagan changed this. Reagan was the president of the conservatives in America, and basically said "Fuck the other side." Not only did he disagree with them, as Nixon had done, but he demonized them and tried to make them into second-class citizens. Nixon attacked the other side, but still tried to do what he thought was best for the whole country, not just his party. Bush Daddy, who hated Reagan, backed off Reagan's policy somewhat, and was defeated by the extremists in his own party for his efforts. Clinton ruled as a statesman, refusing even to demonize those who were slandering him.

W. is just a disciple of Reagan, as are all the leaders of the Repubs now. Even Barry Goldwater despised these people--Gingrich, Delay, Armey, Frist, etc. They don't care what is best for the nation, only what makes their own side richer and happier. This is why I think America is doomed. This is a typical stage in the decline of empires. It's even typical in the decline of corporations, when the owners who built the corporation retire and leave it to the children who only want to milk it.

Who knows, maybe the people will get fed up and boot the lying bastards before it's too late. But it's so close to too damn late now, I don't know if we have a chance.

Nixon--bad because of his criminal tendencies and his political views. Reagan and W--bad to the bone, with not one redeeming feature.

What he did to the Native Americans was more atrocious than Bush, Reagan and Nixon combined.

27. we aren't still paying for Jackson's Presidency..
what Jackson did to native Americans leaves a dark stain on our nation, but that's nothing compared to what we are doing to those in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay. Now we are leaving the tax burden of these crimes behind for future generations to pay..at least Jackson's government paid for his killings.

Unlike Bush, Andrew Jackson believed the electoral college should be abolished..wow, find me an officeholder who supports that now. and most things eventually improved after Jackson was President, but can we say this about Nixon?

3. I remember Mike Lupica
on Conan O'Brien right after Nixon died who got a shocked reaction from the audience when he said that just because Nixon died doesn't make him any less of a liar and a bad guy. It was hilarious. Sticks with me even today.

I love that the RWers are all pissed about this. How dare anyone tell the truth on a Republican Administration? It's unpatriotic and treasonous to charge a Republican with a crime. But Clinton dances around semantics and fire the cannons and get him impeached.

Sad thing is, Bush could shoot someone in the face for no reason on TV with a national audience and no charges would ever be brought forth in today's political atmosphere.

8. And the good things Nixon did...
he did for all the wrong reasons.

He felt the pressure of the warriors at the gates. That's why he started the EPA and ended the draft.

He was literally under siege, that's why he opened dialog with China. It was a shock to his friends and foes alike. And as anybody who was around then knows, anyone else who opened relations with China would have felt the wrath of Nixon.

He was tricky, he was sleazy, but what he had over the likes of Bush, he wasn't a complete moron with utter disregard for the future of the United States.

...an intellectual giant. Also, on some deeply submerged but nevertheless present level, Nixon had some small sense of shame which neither Reagan nor Bush Jr. did/do.

Having some small sense of shame might have been part of the reason Nixon was caught--he wasn't a smooth and convincing enough liar.

Nixon would have no place in the modern GOP
He actually believed that other parts of the world existed, and created the Environmental Protection Agency.

After Reagan, and after this most recent asshat, Nixon almost seems quaint.

23. Iran Contra was far worse of a scandal/crime than Watergate
The Reagan administration sold weapons to the Iranians, our enemy at the time, then used the proceeds to fund the nun-murdering, drug-dealing terrorists called the contras that senile old Ronnie thought were "freedom fighters". On top of that, the administration told the DEA to look the other way while the contras smuggled cocaine into the country, while at the same time pushing for very high sentence guidlines for americans convicted of possessing those very same substances.

In addition, those Iranians Ronnie sold weapons to funded Hezbollah, who of course, bombed a Beruit buidling that housed US Marines, killing hundreds of our own soldiers. The Reagan administration further sold weapons to Saddam Hussein, thus funding both sides of the long, bloody Iran/Iraq war.

What Nixon did was petty in contrast, at least as pertains to Watergate. The assassination of Salvador Allende was pretty bad, but no one ever went after Tricky Dick for that one.

25. Right on, mopaul.
Listening to human garbage like Pat Buchanan, G. Gordon Liddy, Charles Colson, and so many others of their ilk defending Nixon and hurling accusations at Felt (Deep Throat) is like listening to a Tom DeLay lecture on ethics.

Felt, the number two guy at the FBI at the time, took an oath, to "...protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." And that's exactly what he did.

And among those domestic enemies were Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, Pat Buchanan, Liddy, Colson and so many more. Yet these sacks of shit see fit to attack a true patriot? I'm a devout agnostic, but listening to these people makes me wish I could believe in a hell.

29. No, he wasn't "set up by his enemies." He was set up by his own
insanity. Nixon was a fucking lunatic and a sorry excuse for a human being, but I don't think he actually was a bad President. He inherited a war, and got whacked with two energy crises, and economic problems as well. I can't see anyone else having been able to do better.

Personality and presidentiality don't necessarily equate. Clinton was a terrific president, but he was too damn stupid to keep Mr Happy in his pants, when he knew the Republicans were out to get him!

O'course, here we have bushyboy, defective both in personality and presidentiality. Absolutely, positively, the worst ever. Second place: Reagan.

Who the press treated like God and still people don't know the fucker was just a Alzheimer dunce puppet for the neo-cons now in power, who got their start after killing Kennedy and onto the Nixon administration...

Reagan was the blue print for Jr. administration to finish what the fascist under Reagan (and his courting of the religious right) began...

Bill Clinton put it on hold for eight years and Gore was going to as well...so they had to steal it for Jr. to continue their corporate take over of the worlds resources...

Sick, greedy, lying, inhumane monsters!!!

People still don't know or don't care about the ramifications of the incredibly treasonous events of Iran-Contra. The same greedy slime doing this shit to get Reagan elected and profit, these same fucks are the people in power today and will continue because of the electronic voting machines being put in place each day around the country....

Wait until you go vote in 2006...You'll see your brand spanking new BBV machines waiting to distort your vote. They are putting them in as quietly and as fast as possible!!!!!
