7. "Iraq, Inc.: A Profitable Occupation" |
|
by Pratop Chatterjee.
He was on Book TV on cspan over the weekend, and his detailed explaination of how billions in taxpayer funds are skimmed in Iraq was absolutely mindboggeling!
He explained the Cost Plus purchasing system of the DOD. Anyone who didn't find this appauling simply has no capability of thought!

If they're going to quote scripture and cherry pick the text of this book to judge others, they should be required to read the whole thing to glean the big picture of its meaning.
As for Hard Fact Books, I'm not sure. I'd recommend "home Grown Democrat" by Garrison Keilor, but I doubt that they'd read it.

for a change. We don't hear about healing the sick or aiding the poor. Just the fire and brimstone judgment of the Old Testament. So, the New Testament should be mandatory for anyone professing to be a devout conservative.

I just finished it yesterday. It's a good read, and it's irrefutable in its premise if you accept the fact that unfettered markets are not good for highly developed societies.

I'd recommend "Perfectly Legal" by David Clay Johnston or "Blinded by the Right" by David Brock or "Who Will Tell the People" by William Grieder They can take their pick. Each one is enlightening in its own way.

I'm half way through and it has the most incredible information, all backed up with sources.
I was fairly young during the Reagan/Bush 1 years and this book has helped me to connect the dots. I can't tell you how many OMG moments I've had reading this book and I'm sure my friends and family wish I would hurry up and finish it. I keep telling them, guess what I learned today. Whenever you have a book that you learn something new everytime you pick it up, it's a winner in my book!
It's not presented in a bashing kind of style either, it's written very matter of factly.
