14. My dream election usually doesn't contain faces... |
|
... my dream involves finding myself flat on my back in an empty ballroom amidst red, white and blue balloons and confetti. I've got a raging headache from the two bottles of Moet & Chandon White Star I downed and I can't find one of my shoes. Despite the headache, I have a shit-eating grin on my face because the Democratic candidate (whoever he or she might be) won in a landslide. That's my dream.

Instead we have 90% of broadcast media protecting the crooks and their corporate, fascist agenda.

Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 04:15 PM by Husb2Sparkly
I'm not concerned about the gender of my ideal candidate, so I'll use 'her' as a pronoun, but consider it gender-neutral.
She would have a background of a no more than middle class background, but in her life will have achieved much. She won't be a politician, but she will be familiar with government. She might be a lawyer. Maybe an activist. Maybe a public servant. A judge. Even former/retired military. Everything she has, she earned the hard way .... by working for it. She'll have received accolades and recognition for her accomplishments from her peers and from those outside her professional circle.
She'll be well traveled and fluent in more than just English. She'll be married/committed and will have been a long time, although she need not be in her first such relationship. She'll have (or have had) a strong relationship with her parents.
She'll be humble yet confident. Respectful yet self-assured. Caring and nurturing while maintaining high standards for herself and those around her. She'll be incapable of lying, yet know when not to answer a question.
She'll appreciate the arts. She won't suffer fools well. She'll have taken strong stands and won some and lost some. She'll have failed at something along the way; that failure made her stronger and more determined. She'll have nurtured the career/professionalism of those around her.
She'll smile easily and never laugh at the misfortunes of others.
She'll be just like someone one you know.
She'll be extraordinary, yet wonderfully ordinary. Until she runs for office, she'll do her own shopping and will know what a loaf of bread or a house or a year of college or a week of day care .... or an updated rail system or a nuclear submarine *really* costs.
She'll love people .... with love being a verb .... cuz she works at it.
I don't know who she is .... but she's out there right now, quietly doing a lot of good.
<edit for spelling>

If he can get 60% support in his own state, while the next closest Democrat and Republican share the last 40 percent with each other, we've got ourselves somebody who has successfully connected with ordinary people. The kicker is that he's an avowed democratic socialist. Run him.

Any of them would make a lovely president, and any two would make a terrific ticket.
Gore/Dean Gore/Boxer Dean/Gore Dean/Boxer Boxer/Gore Boxer/Dean
President Gore President Dean President Boxer
Maybe they could have a political dynasty... 8 years of Gore, 8 years of Dean, 8 years of Boxer... in no particular order. Or else they could all be president at the same time... a new-school triumvirate.
Sigh.

38. Oh, right, I forgot. And I totally agree. Winfrey/Kerry? |
|
I had a dream once in which Oprah ran for President and kicked everyone's ass--including that of Condi Rice, who naturally became her opponent. It was excellent. Then I woke up, and it was still November 16, 2004, and I wanted to die.
