We live in Washington State.. along Hood Canal, one of the most beautiful inlets in the country. Nearly every day, a black Trident sub goes by our place, together with the post-9/11 escort vessels.
On Memorial Day, I was down on the beach with our dog, trying to get all the "heroic dead" stories out of my head. (We truly are a Culture of Death.)
A black sub was heading out and a neighbor said something admiring like..."Wow, look at that."
I unloaded on the poor SOB... something like this: Each of those fucking things has 24 missles aboard, and each of them has about 5 warheads. Each warhead could level a city like Seattle and kill everybody in it. About 90 cities. And we have 18 of those boats, 7 of them about 20 miles south of us. What possible mission could they have? How many cities are there in the world that we want to kill?"
The neighbor didn't say anything.. just kind of looked embarrassed for me, and wandered off.
I guess everybody has forgotten about the black subs... to busy paying attention to the big WIN in Iraq.
Anybody have any idea what they're going to do with the subs and nukes aboard... besides use them on Iran and NK?

We are also only a hair trigger away from nuclear annihilation. What scares me most is whose finger is at the control.

4. The warheads in the missiles on those subs are targeted on our.... |

...primary/traditional "enemies" like Russia and China. Very few of the warheads carried on our subs are targeted anywhere else at the current time.
If we use nukes on Iran and/or NK, they will be carried to their targets by cruise missiles from cruisers, and/or submarines, and/or air units like the B-52, B-2, and B-1B.

5. Ummmm no, I didn't even knew we had 'black subs' with those kinds of |

weapons on them cruising around in our cities. That is pretty fn scary and I have no idea what purpose they serve. Man, I hope they people running the subs do so error free. One mistake in that job .... scary

Boomers and Tridents, have been converted to SEAL delivery vehicles. A huge compartment that housed the missiles now has a SEAL team onboard to insert into whoever the chimpster wants to invade. The others, as mentioned, are targeted on the old USSR and China just to let them know that the chimpster is only one pretzel stumble away from pushing a lethal button.

Regardless if they are nuclear capable or no longer, it doesn't detract away from the fact that thousands of those warheads still exist in the US stockpile. There's roughly 10,000 of them in the US stockpile, give or take a thousand. A comparable number is still in Russia. Many of the weapons treaties only were aimed at decommissioning them. Only some of them were completely dismantled or destroyed. The rest of them lay in nuclear weapons bunkers for storage and can be brought out again if desired--in a future world war, for instance.
