Once upon a time… No wait. It was a dark and stormy night… No wait.
I got it now.

I watched as he came out of the dark swirling shadows. He was wearing a trench coat with the collar pulled up around his cheeks. The grey fedora’s brim had been pulled down over his eyes. A cigarette hung from his lips. When I tried to get a good look at his face, he tilted his head down to keep me from seeing him. “Deep Throat?”, I whispered.

He silently thrust an envelope in my outstretched hand, then turned and disappeared back into the secret world he had left for a few seconds.

All right, now that I’ve had a little fun, I’ve been thinking about this all day. So put on your little tinfoil hats and suppose with me.

We had a president who was toppled from power by someone who knew what and where the evidence of his dirty tricks was and told a couple of reporters where they could find it. One of the conspirators doesn’t seem to think that he could have legally had this information.

Suppose for a moment that he is right. We know the FBI had a history of taping presidents when they think they are alone. Suppose they were still doing it when Nixon was president.

Bush’s staff were already adults and I’m sure can remember Nixon’s fate very well. Suppose the possibility of being spied upon by the FBI was one that they made plans to intercept and disrupt. Suppose Felt was one of several. Suppose several are still young enough to be working and given the example of the way Bush gutted the CIA…

I’m not sure we can hope for another Deep Throat. :tinfoilhat:

Okay, I've got it on now, blast away.

1. "On the other hand--", she cried.
Actually I'm just going to quote a Ratbang Diary blog which seems to suggest the opposite:

"...Which brings up the most serious consequence of the revelation about Deep Throat's identity. And that is, the universe hates a vacuum and will always fill it.

It's as inevitable as red wine on white pants. The stage is now set for a Bush administration insider to spill the beans and bring down another corrupt Republican dynasty.

No wonder old-guard right-wingers are claiming we still don't know who Deep Throat is."

I've seen that idea floated elsewhere--that the Deep Throat revelation is prelude. And with the media publishing all those low-poll-numbers and lame-duck stories, maybe something is brewing...

I would really like that. But I"m a little afraid that the spooks were slam-dunked, all too well, early in the game and everyone else is too afraid now.

4. Seems to me - it doesn''t matter
if the beans are spilled or not.

Consider the "Downing Street Minutes".

That is about as out there as it's going to get.

It is interesting timing. I remember hearing about him supposivley coming out earlier this year and now? Maybe he got some advice to wait for now or something. I don't know. One can hope. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

6. Okay. I can definitely latch onto that prelude idea.
That keeps my thoughts centered and my heart full allowing me to set aside, for a moment, the cynicism that's invaded my life.
