Where is the outrage?
Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau have gotten married. For the uninitated who have been living under rocks Ms. Letourneau got impregnated while molesting the then 12 year old Vili Fualaau who was her student. She has two children by him and now that she has served her 7 year term, she is free to marry him.

Instead of the outrage that I would think would accompany these sordid nuptuals there was a glossy spread n People and segments on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.

http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,661670_1063916,00.html

Now maybe I missed the outcry from Bush about this. Maybe I missed the myriad of Constitutional Amendments being proposed to stop this. Maybe I missed the right wing Christians calling this a theat to society.

As someone who has heard for the better part of two years that I am either too immoral to get married, want to get married too fast, and a threat to marriage by my very existence, I am beyond pissed at this. If this child molesting bimbo can get married and have the marriage celebrated, then why the Hell shouldn't I be able to marry an adult of my choice?

1. I can't tell if you're serious or not. "Sordid nuptials"?
I mean, I get that you're outraged about the fight against legalizing gay marriage, but is the outrage over this woman marrying the guy what you feel, or are you satirizing what you think rightwing Christians should feel?

3. Imagine for a second if Michael Jackson
were to marry the kid who sued him back in the 1990's. Why is this any different. Sorry this is absolutely sick and if the adult were a man it would be treated as such.

7. Exactly, if the genders were reversed in this case...
Society would be condeming Mr. Letourneau as a sexual predator.

2. You should be able to.

As the married mom of an adult lesbian daughter, I am sickened at the b.s.
emanating from the nation's lowlife so-called "Christians" and sleezy politicos about gay marriage. But the hatemongers will not win, they will just gradually die off. It will take awhile, but they will.

4. No argument here.
I have to wonder the same thing myself. I'm not outraged, myself, though I'm a little...hell, I don't know WHAT I am. Baffled, maybe? Pitying? A mix of disgust and amazement, I guess.

You gotta wonder with something like this...she began a relationship with him when he was what--12? Was she THAT hard up, that a 12 year old seemed like the perfect life partner?

Hell, for all I know--assuming I believed in such things--they're soulmates.

I guess I can boil it down to one word. "Weird."

Other words come to mind, but then I'm just free associating.

5. Because their love is sacred and holy, like that of
Jessica Simpson and her Bambino (can't remember his name) whose marriage lasted about a day and a half. My 16 year monogamous relationship with another man is insignificant in comparison because we have similar genitals.

8. I knew that when I started the post but I was distracted...We're watching
a soap, celebrating summer vacation and have a few other distractions. I tend to confuse Brittney with Jessica with Paris etc etc etc ad nauseum...

17. Yeah
I am going to Oxford on July 16th for the reunion. I have a workshop that week so can't leave until late on the 15th. Then after that I could go down to your neck of the woods. We have a very long summer here (we ended June 1st and start again Aug 19th) due to a change in school starting days. Thus I would have an easy ability to spend an extra day in Mississippi.

10. ET is promoting this like a "Storybook Romance", trying to evoke
sympathy for the poor, misunderstood, Mary Kay.
DISGUSTING! And they keep running segments about this pedophile.

12. It is nothing short of amazing
This would be treated like what it is if it was Mark and not Mary.

11. Where is the tolerance?
The kid is an adult now. She went to prison and did her time. It is not the most normal relationship in the world but they seem to both be consenting adults.

You should be able to marry the adult of your choice just as they should/are but intolerance won't get us there.

13. She should still be in jail
Had she been a male she would be in jail until there were tomatoes on Mars.

18. Yes, she served her full 7 year term. In the meantime, the kid grew up.
Seems like he married her of his own free will. The story is ooky, but it's between those two. And he's a willing part of it. End of my interest in it.

14. She'll be divorced in two years.
And we'll have to hear about her stupid ass again. She's like Tanya Harding; a human train wreck. Another spawn of evil RWers. http://home.earthlink.net/~zkkatz/page59.html.

15. Don't be too sure
it happened at my middle school, she was married and not much of a looker. I don't know how old he was, but the whole school knew something was going on, at least the kids. After he graduated from high school, they got married, and 20 years later were still together. And he was a popular kid, an athlete, could have had any girl he wanted. He wanted her.
