As someone who screens DNA for employment... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 10:24 PM by Singular73
I think everyone needs to calms down.
An awful lot of people have genes which are predetermined to indicate criminal tendencies, alcholism, heart disease, and bad temperament. The truth is, that your genetic makeup is probably closer to average than you think! Employers are generally looking for an indictation that that you won't cost them a ton of money in health care costs, and rightly so! Having a predisposition to alcholism, heart disease, addiction, cancer, and criminal tendencies make you look a lot less attractive to an employer. Please pre-screen your children in-vitro so they avoid these problems, and get some 'genetic counseling' for yourself while you are at it!

This is a parody of the absolutely Fascist "Its not wrong to screen your credit history" thread.
Should be ashamed of themselves...and you call yourself a democrat, or an American for that matter, Ms. Butterfly.

13. unbelievable ... what a stupid question ... |
|
look, it just so happens that grandfathers were invented before they even invented DNA ...
so therefore, grandfathers cannot be included ...
i hope this clears things up for you ... scientifically speaking that is ...

yes, i see you're asking about the mutant gene problem for prospective employees ... those of us in the Corporate Support Division of the Genetic Research Bureau refer to this as the "Freeper Exemption" ...

And yours is amber, indicating that you might have difficulties with social interactions in the workplace. If a fellow employee hogs the printer, you are likely to scowl. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a position at this time.

11. Does genetic screening for employment pass constitutional muster? |
|
Don't employment tests still have to be "reasonbly related" to the capacity to perform the job in question? Genetic screening for employment sure sounds like illegal discrimination.

19. So you advocate everyone who has a genetic predispostion to |
|
any common illness be rejected by an employer because it might cost them too much money. :D
What do you suggest those of us with "bad" genes do for a living? Huh.
You suggest we just go kill ourselves right now and make sure than any of our offspring make sure they have abortions if any "bad genes" show up in testing?
I hope you are joking...right?
Otherwise you might have had lots of fun in Nazi Germany or maybe could find a place in the Bush Administrations FDA.
Sheesh!

Bullshit. There are NO genes for "criminal tendencies" or "bad temperament."
Singular73, if you're not a troll, you're seriously deluded, and if you really have the job you claim to have, you should be fired for making statements that are such bald-faced lies.

22. The real big bucks genetic disease is |
|
"Metabolic Syndrome" - where high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high glucose are simultaneously present. And there are so many inconsistent genetic markers, , Endocrinology, Vol. 143, (6, June 2002), pages 2012-2018 that either everybody is genetically predisposed to "Metabolic Syndrome" or practically nobody is. And, we know epidemiologically, that we have a pandemic of "Metabolic Syndrome" - igh blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high glucose.
Besides, I think genetic screening as an employment/promotion factor is a clear "Big Bucks Damages and Injunction" violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act -- just waiting for the right Eliot Spitzer wannabe to bring the right law suit. ;)

This seems a "copycat" of a previous GD topic thread. We need to discourage copycat threads in GD and GDP.
