Arianna Huffington mentions DOWNING STREET MEMO on CSPAN WJ!
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 07:47 AM by CottonBear
She said it should be discussed and she praised Conyers and Galloway.
The BEST part: host, Peter, acknowledged the memo (I know, minutes). He said: "Yes, the Downing Street Memo." Someone must have gotten to Brian Lamb and asked him why he was quashing the Memo story. Maybe it was the Knight Ridder/Tribune reporter mentioned in another thread.

BTW: *Chuck Colson* is up next on CSPAN WJ. He's delayed because of thunderstorm activity disturbing satellite transmission.

1. WOOHOO.......we forced Cspan to allow the truth to be heard.
A big thanks to all of DU who worked to give voice to Landay's article.

Are you listening to the righteous "Christian" Chuck Colson talking about how anonymous sourcing was abused during the Watergate years but that he believes in that sort of source if you have two sources? WTF? He's so bitter about going to prison.

2. Last week Peter accused a caller who mentioned the
DSM of being part of an organized effort. I tried to call in but didn't get through so I sent an email.

20. There most certainly is something wrong with organizing
If you are a Fascist Regime trying to hold on to the WH then people organizing to tell the truth is as bad as thinking for yourself.

3. Yeah, I saw that too.
The amazing thing was, if I'm not mistaken, Peter was the one that brought it up first when he mentioned John Conyers had a blog on her site.

18. Not trying to be argumentative here, but...
I'd have to check the transcript, but I believe Peter said something like "You've even got John Conyers on there talking about the Downing Street Memo..." and Arianna said, "Yes, the Downing Street Memo..."

It's an important point I was thinking because he brought it up, whereas the other day it was Peter who tried to paint the subject as just a rumor on the internet. That's a huge turning point for me.

But, alas, perhaps it was just wishful thinking on my part...

5. LOL! Colson's on now whining about W&B and the media.
Boo fucking hoo Chuckie Boy.

He's denying knowledge of the cover up until late in 1972. He said he told Nixon to fire everyone involved (Nixon didn't, of course) and that if he'd (Nixon) told the FBI to fire/investigate people that heads would have rolled.

He doesn't think Felt is an honorable man and that the means didn't justify the ends.

16. Chuck Colson is a convicted felon who has lost his rights to vote
...and ever hold public office. He lied and did everything that the Nixon White House asked him to do. Watergate was only the tip of the iceberg of Chuck Colin's crimes.

8. Peter's Stupid Question...
Asks Arianna if she "remembers" Watergate. Arianna said she is 54 (do the math...she was 21 in 1974). Then the doofus asks if she was in this country...with this look of bewilderment on his face. She mentioned she was in England at the time and traveled here a lot...even if she was in Greece, she would have heard about Watergate. Sheesh.

I vividly remember all things Watergate...from where I was when Nixon fired Halderman, Dean & Erlichman, through the Senate hearings (John Dean) to being the local radio engineer for the house impeachment hearings and so on. To hear the wingnuts and Repugnicans attempt to rewrite history is shear balls.

Yep, now here's Colson...being treated like a "victim". This bastard was a hatchetman. He now hides in his "ministry" was just another form of the same racketeering he did for Nixon. Then there's other felons like Liddy who has never been on this planet. And watching Buchanan and Novakula spin their way on this has been pure entertainment.

As usual, Peter shows his right wing bias...taking two Repugnican calls for every one Democrat and usually cutting the Democrat one short.

13. Heck, I remember Watergate and I was in 4th grade in 1974.
I remember watching the resignation and the daily news stories in the paper on on TV. Later, I read "All the President's Men." My dad was a Republican but he didn't talk about politics with me. I watched Meet the Press and Face the Nation with him every Sunday and read the papers with him each day and watched the news each evening. He taught me to read and watch the news.

I did ask my non-political mom about Watergate and she said that "I wouldn't understand." She still will not discuss politics with me (or anyone) to this day.

19. My Parents Couldn't Get Enough Of It
My late mother not only watched the live coverage during the day (most people bitched cause it was on all 3 networks and interupted the Soap Operas...including All My Childen) but then caught the replay on PBS at night. Watching the story unfold was fascinating, and it wasn't until the Supreme Court forced Nixon to release the smoking gun tape that it appeared Nixon wasn't going to weasel his way out of this.

I was graduating High School and in college during this time. I worked for McGovern and Abner Mikva in '72 and have a picture somewhere around here with my favorite "Impeach Nixon" shirt I proudly wore around town.

The night he resigned, we had a big party at a friend's house. It was surreal (having some good herb around didn't hurt either) that night and it took a while for most of us to realize what had happened and what it really meant. Some still seem not to have figured things out.

17. Now THAT'S revolting - Peter shaking his head in agreement with Colson.
In that respect he's like most of the press over the last couple of days as they help apply the slime to Mark Felt, per Republican talking orders.

Jon Stewart nailed it on The Daily Show last night, by simply showing Novak, Buchanan and Liddy condemning Deep Throat. The irony was dripping off the TV set.

I was really ashamed for Peter, since I take the position that c-span is usually down-the-middle fair. He was showing either his support for Colson, or his susceptibility to the con. No pun intended.
