Those directly and indirectly involved in getting caught red handed (Liddy, Buchanan, Colson, Stein) were not surprising in how quickly they came up with prepared statements/allegations but the new(er) kids on the block must have been told to write up something (given blastfax talking points) years ago.

Noonan, Limbaugh, Hannity, and all of Fox News must have just pulled up an existing file on their hard drives ready for an immediate response and issue framing. They definitely seemed to be ready but unfortunately for them, not too effective. They are coming off as "apologists" and "blame society" types that they profess to hate so much.

They are organized but this hit them so quickly they didn't have to to "prepare the battlefield" with advance actions as they usually do before THEY bring something up.

Felt wasn't the problem. Woodward and Bernstein weren't the problem. They just told about the problem.

1. What's funny is listening to them say
If this had been a Democratic President we would never have gotten this information. The media would have beaten felt up for having dared to criticize a Republican.

Do Republicans even remember the Clinton Years?

6. At lunch I heard Rush talking in circles as usual
He mentioned that the Clinton Library had already met the years expectations on visitors "I'll bet the massage parlor has been real busy" and then went on his "The press never reported about JFK or LBJ...the press would never dare do something like this to a Democrat.." type BS.

AS I posted yesterday somewhere-the reason Hoover didn't "leak" info he had on JFK was because he was playing POLITICS. Back in the day there were people who played POLITICS real POLITICS not this *Gotcha* crap. Hoover was expanding his power. The Repubs couldn't with Clinton because miraculously the main planks in their platform (balanced budget*, strengthened military, end of welfare, privatization, telecommunications bill) had become reality-signed into LAW not just talked about. What was there left to do? Nothing just use Clinton's screw up to paint Dems as "immoral" and horndogs.

*-not really balance-Treasury bill liability and Fed pensions are not in the equation anymore.

2. I hope people are able to turn this into a discussion
of the Downing Street minutes.

Otherwise - it's just a waste of time.

4. They have a boilerplate generic rant
All they have to do is insert the name of whomever they're attacking.

Lord, they're uninteresting. I saw Patrick (Adolf) Buchanan and Daniel Schorr on a program last night. Schorr made Buchanan look like a blithering idiot sitting in a wet diaper.

I love those old pros. Schorr even managed to get himself on Nixon's Enemies List. Of course, so did Paul Newman - I think.

8. Actually that is about the time the retreated into their think tanks
and started developing what we now know as the Right Wing Noise machine.

All stemming from Lewis Powell's 1971 memo to the US Chamber of Commerce (they added in the radio bit and the "We love to have FUN not like those miserable self loathing liberals"/"Look at me I'm rich don't you want to be like ME" bits)
