Why do northeast turtleneck liberals with their $7.00 lattes lurk on DU
and just wait for offense, controlling what is and is not humor, expressing pathos, angst, and melodrama over insignificant shit?
Why are they less dangerous than freepers? A freeper has never gotten me censored here.
My post that I spent 20 minutes on just got pulled because i used the word bitch in the title. Is it really this suffocating in here? Hey mods, if the content of the post meets your standards, why can't you just change the title, instead of pulling it? Of course, my usage of "northeast turtleneck liberals" got me censored before as well, so I expect to see this post pulled.
Go suck on your latte's. I'm JUST as liberal as you, JUST as progressive. I'm gonna go suck on my cheap beer now.

1. Just denounce people as trailer-trash, rednecks, and white trash.
Class prejudice is perfectly acceptable here. It's even considered very witty by some.

21. got that right, and plays right into the schemes of the right wing
to separate philosophically natural allies along class lines.

i noticed it over two years ago here when sport was made of wal mart employees and customers being lower class yahoos. there was a thread about classism at DU that went to 200 posts back in 2001 that discussed just this snobbery by the educated elites here.

the site seems to be lacking here even a modicum level of blue collar, working class representation and sensibilities which are in fact by necessity more interested in results than in mimicing the behavior exhibited by the birkenstock wing of the democratic party of scoring of stylish debating points triumphing the virtues of liberalism.

john kennedy alluded to this a long time ago in his acceptance speech before the liberal party of new york as that party's prssidential candidate in sept 1960.

"Our responsibility is not discharged by an announcement of virtuous ends. Our responsibility is to achieve these objectives with social invention, with political skill, and executive vigor.'

the distance between action and glittering rhetoric is everything.

BTW they will have to pry my velvet elvis pix from my cold dead hand before i act like an intellectual snob...and yes, i do have one and i do live in a trailer.

3. I'm not a part of that contingent
I don't wear turtlenecks, not from the NE, and I sure as hell don't drink lattes. But I know the type you are talking about, they do exist.
I wouldn't paint all of DU with that brush, however.

4. There you go...
Everybody sucks...

I don't know why bitch was not appropriate. But in an environment like this, it is sometimes hard to enforce a standard code of behavior. Perhaps someone was just in a twist, panty wise.

Good question.

5. I'm in the northeast, but I'll join you for a cheap beer.
Most Democrats aren't used to people who come on strong, I guess - but time has shown that we need more people who speak loudly, whether or not we agree with them all the time.

16. Neither. he swilled beer, that is a fact
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 11:17 PM by roughsatori
I was raised in a trailer park, that is a fact. He is now sober, thank the Lord. I was joking, but now that you asked. You sound like someone who is not progressive at all by your lack of understanding about the word "bitch" being pulled when used in a title on a public forum that has a mainly progressive membership.

Calling them "Latte liberals" is being like those who use "white trash." It does nothing but betray superiority, and in some case inferiority.

Being poor is not an excuse for lacking class.

10. Bitch is a sexist term used to intimidate women who dare be "unfeminine"
You may not agree with that, but there it is.

18. are you a moderator? Mods, do you agree with this??n
If so, you know I spent more than a minute (something DU has encouraged in the past) in writing my post. I make a reference to a pop culture "laugh line" in my title, and you guys pull it. The post had NOTHING offensive in it. It was fairly serious. I shared a letter i wrote to Friedman.
Do not lecture me on what i can and cannot find humorous.
Please DU, for KEE-RICED sake, do not go politically correct on me!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

20. Actually, bitch is a female dog, usually of good breeding
I don't find the word "bitch" to be sexist. And because a woman isn't "feminine"? Now that's just silly. Most people who call a woman a "bitch" does so because she's being mean to them or behaving badly. It's the same thing as when a guy gets called an "asshole". It's certainly not justification to delete a post, unless it was a personal attack on a member here. If it wasn't, then whoever made the alert was whining, in my opinion.

12. Have no idea who, where or why you used that word but as a woman I
will always find it as offensive as any other racial, ethnic. religious or regional slur. It denotes a generalization of women as animals and such slurs would not be tolerated for any other group of humans by liberals or those who promote rights for all people. By the way, I feel sure that you can find many other ways to express yourself with resorting to this type of speech.

13. Why are you so angry?
The anger in this board is frightening.

We are all tired of the way Smirk is going, but the anger has gotten out of control.

I don't know a thing about you, but I am tired of people attacking here in order to feed their own problems.

Why do you think you have a right to interrupt an established family here? Without repercussions?

14. You must not know New England very well if you think this
I'm from New England. I do like the $1.25 French Vanilla Cappucino that comes out of the machine at the convenience store. I think I own one turtleneck that I never wear. I won't even spend $7.00 on a pair of underwear, so I sure as hell wouldn't spend that much on a beverage. Overall I'm pretty damn tolerant of opposing views and rarely get my undies in a bunch over something. Angst? Perhaps if I'm constipated, but I can't think of any other time that term would apply.

Now, who pissed in your cheerios? :)

19. New England bashing is perfectly acceptable on DU
now, if someone started a thread about the South, all hell would break loose.

My lattes only run about $3-and I get them from my local, independent coffee shop and not Charbucks.
