Wanna BLOW your MIND? Guess what excuse bushCo gave for not releasing
those other, as Rummy put it "sick, inhuman, depraved" Abu Ghraib torture photos and 4 videos. The ones that made Senators (Republican ones, even) sick to their stomachs, made some leave the room unable to watch further. THe ones of US troops at Abu Ghraib. The ones proving beyond all doubt that it never was "a few bad apples", it was, as the US Military's own reports have said, SYSTEMIC and WIDESPREAD.

Go on, GUESS what excuse bushCo gave to the federal court for not releasing those photos and films!

Wait, you'd have to be as insane as bushCo to guess and even attempting it may permanently damage brains, so I'll just tell you...

Releasing the photos and videos of US troops torturing & raping men, women & kids in Abu Ghraib would VIOLATE THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS.

:wow: :wow: :wow:

These fascists are clever, clever people, tho, aren't they? I've come to the conclusion this type of manipulativeness comes naturally to them -- they don't have to work at it.

Edit: Hope Jon Stewart and his crew get on this one. Or is it just too perfect for them?

14. But, it was bought with MY money
Isn't that why George wants to loot Social Security? Because that money belongs to the people, so why should the government hang on to it for you?

Well, those photos and videos, as well as the actions captured were also accomplished with MY money. I've paid for 'em, I wanna see 'em. If there are negative repercussions that might follow, isn't it in my best interest to know what sort of retaliation might be coming for me? Forewarned is forearmed, as the old saying goes, and considering the inept job this corrupt administration did with the forewarnings from January through August 2001, I have to think I'll do a better job of taking steps to protect myself than the government will.

Besides, George himself said in reference to the photos of Saddam that he didn't think people would get too jazzed about that violation of the Geneva Conventions. Surely such a godly, Christian man wouldn't indulge situational ethics between photographic violations of the Geneva Conventions? What's good for one violation is good for all of them, right?

Let the American people see what's been done in their name.

31. They get to have everything both ways-because they are criminals
Attorneys for the government had argued that turning over visual evidence of abuse would violate the United States’ obligations under the Geneva Conventions, but the ACLU said that obscuring the faces and identifiable features of the detainees would erase any potential privacy concerns. The court agreed.

"It is indeed ironic that the government invoked the Geneva Conventions as a basis for withholding these photographs," said Amrit Singh, a staff attorney at the ACLU. "Had the government genuinely adhered to its obligations under these Conventions, it could have prevented the widespread abuse of detainees held in its custody in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantánamo Bay."

~snip from above link~

Oh wait-this administration doesn't have to be held to account. They are outside of all law. Criminals all. These guys are IDEOLOGICAL criminals. The idea is pure-so the action is just.
They are creepy fascists and all those that appologize for them make me sick.

17. If I were the federal judge who heard that argument,
I'd have been tempted to throw the BushCo lawyer who said that in jail for contempt of court. Because it's truly contemptuous of the court and the legal system and human decency and the entire damn universe to pull such a morally bankrupt excuse out of your ass and say it to a judge. It's akin to a guy who murdered his parents asking the court for mercy because he's an orphan.
Just when I think they can't do anything more depraved, they come up with something like this. "Bottom-dwelling, scum-sucking asswipes" doesn't come even close to an adequate description of these douchebags.

Fact is, the New Yorker artciles have mentioned the rapes... which is a very common tactic... so common it is not even funny... hence why it is actually mentioned in the Conventions by act.

36. These Fucks Defined the word IRONY....
~snip~

"It is indeed ironic that the government invoked the Geneva Conventions as a basis for withholding these photographs," said Amrit Singh, a staff attorney at the ACLU. "Had the government genuinely adhered to its obligations under these Conventions, it could have prevented the widespread abuse of detainees held in its custody in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantánamo Bay."

The court order filed late yesterday requires the government by June 30 to reprocess and redact 144 detainee abuse photographs provided by Sergeant Joseph Darby to the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command. The order also requires the government to provide the court with an estimate of the length of time it will take to reprocess and redact four movies included as part of the Darby collection by June 10. The decision comes after the court privately viewed eight of the images from the Darby collection to determine whether the photographs should be released under the FOIA. The ACLU expects redacted versions of the photographs to be released within the next six weeks.

FOUR Movies??? OMG.... I just can't even imagine how bad it is.

The DNA transfusion from the UK that had a magical effect on our cowardly lion of a Democratic majority has begun to combine with the piss from a few democratic leaders and the Howard Dean vinegar to free up the real ethical majority from their self imposed straitjacket of politeness and business-as-it-was thirty years ago.

Governmental republicans and slimy ethical standards democrats are not encumbered by any sort of real compassion and certainly don't hanker for a closer relationship to integrity. We must fight the fight of truth and values and be totally willing to fight dirty and passionately-not abandoning those values, as the theocratic pretenders have done, but get mean and tough, vicious even, in the battle to save the world.

Demand truth - it's worth what you pay for it.

The Bush crime regime finally drove me to pulling my freakin hair out! I can't take it!

Violate the Geneva Conventions? Since when the hell did they start having respect for the Geneva Conventions? Don't they think 9/11 rendedered it quaint and obsolete???

70. Here's a little trip down hypocrisy lane
This article is from early in the war when Iraq caught a couple of our guys and showed them on tv. (I think they also showed some dead soldiers.)The House passed a resolution 419-0 against the abuse:

The United States has faulted Iraq for showing pictures of the prisoners of war, which the U.S. claims violates the Geneva Convention on treatment of POWs. Article 13 of the Convention bars any "humiliation" of prisoners.

President Bush said Sunday he expected that Iraq treat any prisoners "humanely, just like we'll treat any Iraqi prisoners."
...
and the Pentagon makes a point of contrasting their treatment with that given by the Iraqis to coalition troops... "We are treating all of the POWs in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, with dignity and respect," Clarke said Monday.

The House resolution approved Thursday demands that Iraq obey the Geneva Conventions, condemns violations of those rules to date, and calls for the Red Cross to have access to Americans held captive.

It also "joins the president in warning all Iraqi authorities that any individual who mistreats any prisoner of war in violation of that Convention shall be considered a war criminal and prosecuted as such to the full extent of United States and international law."

80. Amazingly enough....
I really think Rummy believes that in his sick twisted mind. Whenever this comes up he always bemoans the fact that these people took pictures and never ever acts concerned about the conduct.

In other words, he's only upset that he got caught.

Its one of those: Who are you gonna believe? Me, or your lying eyes" moments, and the problem is, the pictures are simply to graphic to ignore, even for jaded Murkins.

He said this from the very beginning, something to the effect
that he was being asked about this because they all had digital cameras or something to the effect. It gave me the impression that he thought it was okay if it weren't for the digital cameras. Of course, our liberal press didn't grill him further to ask him exactly what did he mean about that. Disgusting really.

104. Don't forget
this was the same man who was angry that pictures were taken rather than that there were things committed during which pictures were taken.

The solution to that one was to ban the taking of pictures at Abu Ghraib. There, problem solved!

87. How do you argue with the logic
that what's harmful to the country is not the fact that these things happened, but that someone actually wants to make it public. It's not the fact that we torture and murder prisoners(26 died in custody so far) it's the fact that some wussy liberals want people to know about it. Can some lurking freeper please explain that logic to me? I pine for the days when this country led by example...
