Nat'l Women's Law Center starts new site re: judicial nominations

Support judges who support women's rights

New site of info on nominees and a blog, also a newsletter, action center, articles and more

Judicial Nominations
The core legal rights that women have won over the last 30 years – the right to choose, the right to equal opportunities in the workplace and schools, and a broad range of other legal protections that afford women their well-being and safety – are currently jeopardized by the appointment of federal judges who share an extreme legal philosophy. The Center is leading the way in the debates over the Senate’s role in evaluating and confirming judicial nominations and highlighting what is at stake for women and the public at large with respect to lifetime appointments to the federal courts.

The Bush Administration’s Record on Issues Important to Women and An Agenda for the Future
In ways both well-publicized and carefully hidden, glaring and subtle, the Bush Administration is rolling back women’s progress in every aspect of their lives. The Center has released a report, Slip-Sliding Away: The Erosion of Hard-Won Gains for Women Under the Bush Administration and an Agenda for Moving Forward, showing that many of the Administration’s actions with harsh effects on women are occurring almost completely without public scrutiny, and some of its more well-publicized actions have a particularly harmful effect on women that is not widely known. The report includes recommended actions that should be taken to expand and protect women’s rights and opportunities.
