Concerned about Randi Rhodes surgery
Just want to put forth that my wife had a friend whose mother died from anesthesia while getting liposuction.

I am disappointed that Randi Rhodes is insecure enough to risk her life getting liposuction.

Exercise is the way to go. Spend the money on a personal trainer to provide the motivation. Shrgery shoudl be reserved for life threatening situations, not vanity.

2. I'd be more concerned about the longterm effects of her smoking.
We know she can handle anesthesia because she just had a hysterectomy. (But it's really nice of you to be concerned. :))

4. Yeah she mentioned it today
I had the impression that it would be soon. She said she's had a lot of plastic surgery.

I don't think its ethical. I see it as desecrating the body for personal vanity. I feel plastic surgeons are parasites preying on vanity.

In the case of disfigurement, I may have a more open mind.

5. Randi probably suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder
People so preoccupied with how they look generally have some kind psychological issue. It isn't vanity. It's a real problem. Calling it vanity minimizes the real issue. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is related to anorexia and bulimia. People do these things to themselves because they see themselves are horribly fat or ugly. If you've ever listened to Randi, you know she sees herself as ugly.

Once again: it ISN'T vanity. Most likely Randi has a serious problem.

6. yeah I thought she was a real dog from the way she talks about herself
but she's not at all bad looking.

ALso the rest of her personality is screaming for attention - her overt sexuality, bragging about her big boobs, etc.

7. Oh please - every star on television has had tons of cosmetic surgery
Every movie star, every news anchor (at least the female ones), talk show host, every teenage girl from Long Island has had a nose job. It's not a mental disorder, although you're right it CAN be, but not necessarily. Anybody who can afford it and is in the public eye is doing it. First Lady Laura Bush included - nice face lift, Laura! What's the problem?

10. Randi may or may not have this disorder. Only a psychologist
can decide for sure.

But from the way she talks about herself, I get the impression she hates her own body and is obsessed with physical flaws. That's part of the diagnosis for Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

You immediately extrapolated Randi's situation to people who aren't at all like her: movie stars, Laura Bush, etc. A lot of times, those people have plastic surgery as a CAREER decision. Randi doesn't have a career in front of the cameras and the way she constantly hounds herself about her looks is NOT healthy.

Our society is obsessed with physical beauty, which turns some people into anorexics, bulemics and haters of their own body: folks with Body Dysmorphic Disorder. It is a wide-spread problem that affects people from all walks of life. Some people actually become addicted to plastic surgery.

Again, some people get plastic surgery for health or career reasons. I'm not talking about them.

8. Randi is already a hottie...
She doesn't need any Frankenstein surgery done on her...especially after already having had surgery (a hysterectomy, I THINK, please correct me if I'm wrong) earlier this year...
