Our comment to the FEC about Free Speech online
Friends,

The Online Coalition is proud to release our official Comment to the Federal Election Commission's proposed rulemaking regarding political speech on the Internet. Your support in the past has helped the FEC understand the importance of protecting free speech online. We need your help again.

Please visit the Online Coalition right now to read and endorse our comment.

The window to submit a comment to the FEC closes on Friday, June 3rd, 2005 -- it's not too late to submit your own comment. Simply send an e-mail to internet@fec.gov and be sure to include your name and mailing address. If you do not feel comfortable providing the FEC with personal data, send your comment to info@onlinecoalition.com and we'll submit it for you anonymously.

Once the public comment period closes, the FEC will deliberate for a few weeks and then hold a public hearing on either June 28th or June 29th in Washington, DC. Both Mike Krempasky (a Republican) and Michael Bassik (a Democrat) from Online Coalition have requested the opportunity to testify at those hearings.

After the public hearings, the FEC will deliberate for a few weeks until they produce a final version of the rules and vote to enact them. Out of the six-member bipartisan Commission, they need four votes to do anything. We'll do our best to keep you informed at every step.

Don't forget to visit the Online Coalition today to read and endorse our comment.

Thank you again for your continued support and encouragement -- and thank you for all your work.

Best,

The Online Coalition

Edit 2: I was mad and changed this to show my letter.

"FCC and their debate to regulate political speech online sounds
familiar. Seems to me that this kind of regulation of free speech has
been tried in the Soviet Union. And Nazi Germany. And Fascist Italy.
And Communist China. And Islamic theocracies in the Middle East. And
the Taliban. What do they have in common? All were a form of tyranny.

By preventing free speech online, it prevents citizens from expressing
their views that most major news organizations and media would ignore
as they prefer the neoconservatives and the followers of rev. Moon.
That said, it seems as though the FCC is wanting to violate the
Constitution in order to prevent people from expressing, discovering,
and debating political views online in order to maintain power of the
dominant party.

Democracy can only exist when the flow of information and opinion is
freely available to all people. The above examples knew this and
prevented that. As history shows us, control of information to a few
can have devastating effects.

Please, in order to preserve democracy, not only for the world, but
for future generations who will be honored to have this part of
history stand down the theocratic extremeists of Rev. Moon and others
who would corrupt our great nation.

May God bless you."
