This would be the first article in the mainstream media talking about Iraq intelligence getting messed with by the Bush administration. Note the date.

Some administration officials expressing misgivings on Iraq
By WARREN P. STROBEL and JONATHAN S. LANDAY
Knight-Ridder Tribune News

Oct. 8, 2002

WASHINGTON — While President Bush marshals congressional and international support for invading Iraq, a growing number of military officers, intelligence professionals and diplomats in his own government privately have deep misgivings about the administration’s double-time march toward war.

These officials charge that administration hawks have exaggerated evidence of the threat that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein poses — including distorting his links to the al-Qaida terrorist network — have overstated the amount of international support for attacking Iraq and have downplayed the potential repercussions of a new war in the Middle East.

They charge that the administration squelches dissenting views and that intelligence analysts are under intense pressure to produce reports supporting the White House’s argument that Saddam poses such an immediate threat to the United States that pre-emptive military action is necessary.

“Analysts at the working level in the intelligence community are feeling very strong pressure from the Pentagon to cook the intelligence books,” said one official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A dozen other officials echoed his views in interviews.

print this, and then print it again, and then print it again. And then PASS IT OUT!

On Edit: Needless to say, pass it out, with Downing Street Memo!

4. Wow! Great find, Will!
I'm going to repost the link and some excerpts from the article on another forum where Bush zombies slug it out with normal people. This is powerful corroboration of the Downing Street minutes--even the language is similar.

8. Another Oct. 2004 article by Stroebel & Landay...
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/9927782.htm

WASHINGTON - In March 2003, days before the start of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, American war planners and intelligence officials met at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina to review the Bush administration's plans to oust Saddam Hussein and implant democracy in Iraq.

Near the end of his presentation, an Army lieutenant colonel who was giving a briefing showed a slide describing the Pentagon's plans for rebuilding Iraq after the war, known in the planners' parlance as Phase 4-C. He was uncomfortable with his material - and for good reason.

The slide said: "To Be Provided."

Could this hardworking twosome be the new Woodward/Bernstein team?

12. that's why the M$MWs who do deign to bring up the MINUTES claim 'OLD NEWS'
I remember reading more than one story on the run up to war in different papers that our career people were saying the case for war was BS.

so when they say it was old news they kinda have a point BUT this 'old news' like old Europe is still not being acknowledged.

we got these suckers trapped by all legal and moral standards but the band plays on...

BREAKING NEWS: MJ JURY TAKES OVER... SHARK ATTACKS UP on BOTH COASTS... GM UNVEILS NEW SUV lineup... blah, blah, blah

the tipping point gotta be near with folks like you continuing to PILE ON and PASS THE WORD :toast:

peace
