The rumbling on the right has begun with Downing St, be prepared!

First we had the Fox article from this past Wednesday, "Downing Street Memo Mostly Ignored in U.S."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,158228,00.html. The article was actually surprisingly bi-partisan,
considering the source. And according to Wizbang blog: http://wizbangblog.com/archives/006083.php, the reason
Fox did the report was because of our emails? "She shared with me the reason the story was on Fox's radar was because her editors had received a barrage of e-mail and messages demanding to know why the mainstream media were not covering the story. In that regard the lefty bloggers seem to have had at least some level of success, though credit probably belongs with Vlahos for researching and developing a story angle that she was able to pitch to her editors."

Last night we had the article from NewsMax, "Kerry Touts Bush Impeachment Memo" (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/6/3/00901.shtml), which did it's dismissive
and "nothing to see here" counter, on what they call an "impeachment memo".

Then there was the posting out of Newshound, who's tag line is "we watch Fox so you don't have to". http://www.newshounds.us/2005/06/03/the_downing_street_memo_and_impeachment_get_a_fair_hearing.php,
describes the Alan Colmes radio from last night, which had guests who debated the DSM. Of course the
guest, Carl Limbacher, who wrote the Newsmax article above, was spewing Clinton, Clinton, and more Clinton.

I remember seeing another thread about the timing on our side in regards to DSM. Well it appears that
it's getting to that next level. Where if Kerry does what he said he'll do (Senate Floor), it will be go time.

The question is do we have all our ducks aligned? Because they will be in attack mode....

1. I'm all for us pushing this, but are we really still that naive?
We'll present facts, evidence, timelines, corraborating testimony and any number of other specifics. They'll trot out the same people spouting general talking points about how much the left hates this president, and their 40% base will eat it up and slavishly support and regurgitate whatever they hear on fox news and talk radio.

Meanwhile the mushy middle who are the ones who need to be won over will look at it and say "Oh well both sides have their agendas so I really don't trust either one so I'm going to ignore this story altogether."

Again, I'm all for pushing this and I'll do my part but really if anyone could point to evidence of the likelihood of this outcome being anything other than what I detailed above, by all means I could use some optimism.

3. Git yer RW diatribe right here
Minneapolis Star Tribune Letters from readers (bold text mine)
June 1, 2005 (snip)

More Bush bashing

I am done reading your editorial page. On a Memorial Day, when one could focus an editorial on all of the good things being done by our forces in the Middle East, the Star Tribune chose to beat the drum for the Bush bashers. It doesn't matter whether any of the sources or facts supporting your editorial are true or not.

The editorial reads as if it were written by a liberal wacko completely out of touch with America.

Mike Borowicz, Champlin.

(Omitted many more in praise of the editorial)

10. yes, they will dismiss it
by intimating that it doesn't matter - * was "re-elected" for a second term, thus negating any "questionable" motives for beginning the War in Iraq. Just like they did with switching (and ignoring) the WMD arguement to "bringing democracy to Iraq".

2. It depends a lot on what happens in 06
Let the recent publicity reviving Watergate remind us: we had congressional investigative, and eventually impeachment, committees because Dems held the House and the Senate. The Senate Watergate Committee had subpoena powers (I remember that at the time that was the sine qua non of the whole process).

I'd like to think that we will win both House and Senate in 06 and then get our investigative committees going. A committee dealing with the 2004 presidential election, another into the Downing St. memo and the run up to the war in Iraq, and I could go on and on (maybe we should draw up our list of favorite topics of investigation!).

5. maybe fox wants to break ranks
sure they've been bush buddies but bottom line is bottom line. perhaps the whole deep throat reveal has made fox news think they should be the next media organization to bring down a President. Hey, if you're gonna dream. Dream big.

11. Stay Focused on the Macro Story
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 10:43 AM by tmorelli415
it is not about the memo per se - it is about what it reveals. there has been a succession of bits and pieces of this story buiding for several years. The sum total of all of it is creating a critical mass. Impeachment is said to be a process that requires years of collecting massive legal documentation. I remember hearing back in 2002 that there were Dems in Congress quietly doing this. The truth is on our side. The Repukes in control of the House will try to block anything we do but we must remain convinced that there are moderate Rs who will eventually find it politically impossible to resist calling for investigation lest they go down with the ship. This will also give us a tool for building public opinion that will aid Dems in the mid-terms. As to the Senate, were not anywhere close to impeachment yet so their role should be dealt with when the time comes - I don't think it impossible.

Kerry wants to be a Kool-Aid kid

The vanquished Democratic presidential candidate has expressed interest in the latest conspiracy theory the Hard Left thinks will bring down the Bush administration. After Gannongate failed to be any kind of scandal at all, the moonbats, led by Rep. John Conyers are touting some notes allegedly written by an aide to British Prime Minister Tony Blair as proof that "Bush Lied!" STORY Might these papers have been leaked?
