Someone here asked me what kind of Democrat I am...
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 11:54 AM by I Have A Dream
I responded that I consider myself to be a progressive. However, it made me wonder what my possible answers could have been.

What are the possible answers to this particular question, and what makes them what they are (what defines them)?

1. A radical anti-war hippee type
My daughter's friends at her high school think of me this way when she tells them I'm an active democrat.

2. Moderate democrat
is my usual response. Were our society not insanely tilted to the right, I would probably be a moderate conservative.

5. A non-yellow dog Democrat who votes the issues.
As an Anarchist (AKA Libertarian-Socialist) I consider most politicians just a notch above the guys who give them the money to screw the people.
It's just that the Democrats aren't as good at screwing us as their comrades in the other capitalist party. Although they seem to be getting better at it.

6. Social liberal, fiscal strict conservative. 100% pro-gun rights.

I'd probably be a Libertarian if their national party would put the bong down for five minutes and get their act together. I'm finding it very difficult to locate many Democrats with a spine these days.

8. If Democrats were bubble gum...
Would you be Bubblicious? Double Bubble? Bubble Yum? Grape, strawberry, or tropical punch?

I hate questions like the one given to you, but it is thought-motivating.

What flavor am I? I'm a lifelong Democrat who only recently woke up to political realities with the 2000 election. I lean to the green (environmental concerns) and to the progessive (unions and national healthcare). I'm "moderate" in the sense that I believe gun control should be a local issue, and I'm also anti-Prohibitionist who wants to see an end to the war on drugs.

That's how I define myself. But it's probable that somebody else might call me a different kind of Democrat - perhaps a left-winger, or a moderate, or whatever.

It's only how you define yourself, so it's not that important.

What's important is how and how often you vote, and how you spend your money.

9. I always respond that labels mean different things to different people.
So I ask them to ask me what I think about a particular issue and then they can label me what they want if they need to.

12. Sorry that I asked. Was none of my business. I'm a yellow dog I think.
And yes - labels are not the way we usually go here. Welcome. :hi:

14. Please don't apologize -- I didn't mind at all.
In fact, it really made me wonder what my options were, thus the thread.

Thanks for the welcome!

My response?
