The Ten Commandments on public property - ? |
|
Something that I really don't get.
If the halls of justice are for ALL people, then ALL people must be equal in the eyes of "justice" (the law, the judges, etc).
If everyone is equal in the eyes of our judicial institutions, then, if one group can post its religious tenants at these institutions, doesn't it follow that ALL groups should be able to post their religious tenants there as well?
In fact, don't Satanists have just as much right to post their "top ten" beliefs as Christians? Don't Muslims, Buddhists, and all other religions have just as much right to demand their tenants be posted along side the Ten Commandments?
And if someone, say a group representing the church of Satan for optimal contrast, demanded their top laws be posted, and they were refused, would the US government not then have officially sanctioned a State Church/Religion ?
Just wondering aloud...

5. You'd think so, wouldn't you? |
|
However, the majority always feels it has sole right to push its own beliefs in public places. That's why the Bill of Rights was included in our constitution.
If the Bill of Rights had been at all popular, it would never have been necessary. It limits the rights of the majority, something the majority always found very vexing.
The framers had the right idea: keep the church and the state separate. Keep checks on the majority so that they can't tyrannize the minorities. Keep checks on the state so it can't tyrannize the people.
That was the idea, anyway, until the war on drugs and the patriot act came along.

fundies scream for 10 commandmants
Dems & ACLU say No,can't do that
fundies scream that Dems are 'against christianity' drawing in more folks to their voting base
If we encouraged a group of Mulsims, Buddhists, Wiccans, whoever else to JOIN the law suit, asking for the same treatment, then the general public would quickly realize that this is about fair treatment for ALL people, instead of US persecuting Christians.
The fundies would be exposed for what they really want - legal protection to shove their beliefs down everyone's throat. And can you see Falwell/Dobson sputtering and screaming trying to keep the Muslims from trying to become a party to the lawsuit? Hell, we could fund it by selling admission tickets just for the comedy value.

8. Why do fake Christians worry about the Ten Commandments so much? |
|
They should be focusing on what JESUS taught, not MOSES.
Jesus taught the Beatitudes.

Christians are scared of life. They want their beliefs to be official rul of law and to kill anyone that disagrees so they can feel right and support their claims.
I agree with having other religious posting if they keep pushing it. Best to have none and use secular law but Christians will yell communism, Nazism, etc till they start again to kill people for Jesus. As long as their leaders claim to speak for god they will continue this push for mass death till either they win or their leaders agree to allow democracy to exist. No easy solution without camps but it may come to that to protect our nation from domestic enemies. I hope not but they're pushing us toward a global war for a dead man.

If you think about it the Ten Commandments are Jewish law since they were the Jews and Moses was a Jew. Heck even Jesus was a Jew.

Everybody has a right. Especially on PUBLIC property. Now if it's on their own front lawn I could give a shit cause they pay that property and all that. Oh and don't forget the line in the pledge: "liberty and justice for A-L-L."
