8. We Heard The Same In The Early Days Of Vietnam

I remember every Friday night, the Huntley-Brinkley report would flash the numbers of killed during the previous week. It usually was ARVN (North Vietnam): 2,000, NVA (Viet Cong),: 1,000, U.S.: 250. Surely with those numbers, we had to be winning.

There were also sham elections, too. We tried several times to "create" a democracy in that country, too. But it's hard to have a strong centralized state when a majority of your countryside is in open revolt. But the pictures of the people voting and the smiling locals doing their thing for the camera is what feels good.

This all changed in early '68...a thing called Tet when the whole country exploded and the shock woke up this country. It may take such another event...and even then you've got dittohead chickenhawks who are so removed from reality they will support...even encourage...greater blunders.

I remember posting a shit load of times on the command-post when this debacle first started and the freeps kept saying the weapons would be found. They kept saying that give it time...Iraq is huge... Then they started to say the weapons would be found in Syria...

After a while they dropped it altogether and accepted the fact that hey we were duped but it was ok since everyone was duped.

Unless our soldiers are videotaping us beating the shit out of iraqi women and children the repubs will cling on to ANY SHRED of positive news on Iraq.

They are simply too proud to admit they are wrong, i.e. 'Nam.
