people will soon realize how a national health program is cheaper and more efficient than what we have now, and will demand it.

4. STRONGLY favor it (Nat'l Health Care Program) |
|
and I think its implementation is inevitable; I just don't know when. The allocation of health care according to ability to pay is evil and just plain wrong.

14. Yes, and yes, but it will be called something else. |
|
We'll be stuck with some quasi-single-payer thing in all likelihood that'll suck but be an improvement over what we have, which is nothing (save for Medicaid).
I'm one of those optimists who believes the pressure to nationalize health insurance will be the result of some death-cage match between the insurers who currently skim a despicable amount of money from us, and the employers (and their employees, of course) who are getting screwed.
Golly, ya think maybe Dems could make something out of this for 2006?

Really, necessary heathclare should be an issue of "national security" that the nation is able to defend itself from biological problems and has the infrastructure to do so. I'm in favour of shifting 50% of the defense budget to national healthcare.
But short of that, cannabis, cocaine, mushrooms and other medicinal herbs are freely available across the USA thanks to the hard work of the drugs-war-assholes and the criminals in the white house... so at least medicinal herb is around for the pains when no doctor is available.

... none of it is life-threatening. Not at this point, anyway. The hypertension is the worst of it, but that is starting to come under control without drugs now (diet, exercise, green tea).
But I also need surgical treatment for an ear problem that also produces a lot of pain. Once my personal physician retires, I'll have to go on another drug hunt, since so many physicians are too scared to prescribe anything.
And to think, I used to work in medicine, and made a few contributions to the field, too. Well, I guess the fight against Socialism is more important than the public health!

There should be a high minimum care available to everyone in the country, citizen or not.
If the rich want to retain their prerogatives they can pay extra for private rooms, catered meals, whatever the hell they want, but they should not be allowed to get diagnoses and treatments that others cannot get just because they're rich. They can fly in their specialists from the Mayo Clinic or Switzerland or whatever, but even the poorest supplicant should be able to get qualified care.
Health care must be taken out of the hands of the bookkeepers and insurance companies. Eliminating those middle-men will reduce the cost of healthcare probably by half.
