Pat Buchanan has "disassembled" all over tv the past few days
Pat's been wearing his tinfoil hat and cooked up this conspiracy between Mark Felt and the FBI that started during the campaign of 1972 and continued through 1973 for the purpose of taking down the president and getting Mark Felt appointed head of the FBI. I thought only we wore tinfoil hats, but Pat's obviously been busy creating this scenario that continues to protect his former boss and make "the liberal media" the cause of all bad things that ever happened.

"Mark Felt was the criminal, not Nixon"

"Nixon made some mistakes"

"You mentioned the word coup d'etat. You are right. Watergate was a coup d'etat against the president of the United States with the American secret police acting in collusion with the Washington Post secretly. And all this stuff about Woodward and Bernstein and Redford and whoever - that was all the cover story behind what was going on. That's what we know now."

"What Mark Felt was was a dirty cop. He was a corrupt FBI agent who was in charge of an criminal investigation and who was taking the fruits of that invetigation and giving them to the Washington Post in order to help bring down a president of the U.S. who had passsed over Mark Felt for the job of head and director of the FBI.
During the campaign of 1972, we now know, the FBI, though the agents didn't know it, were working for the Washington Post and the purpose was to bring down the President of the U.S. Woodward and Bernstein now appear more and more like simply gofers, people who are carrying the frutis of the FBI investigation and putting them on the front page of the WP.
Now if you've got collusion between the American secret police and the propaganda arm of the American establishment to take down the most popular president ever up to that time, we won 49 states, you are dealing with the most dangerous situation I can remember ever in this country."

"This was a systematic transfer of information from an investigation which apparantly lasted all the way through the late 1973 when you've got the gaps in the tapes and things like that. And so you get to motivation, and the motivation of Felt was to run the agency himself. And he had been doing black-bag jobs himself. And so what he did was put the Agency in the service of the Washington Post. Which is a greater violation of law, taking the FBI and criminally putting it at the service of an institution which is trying to destroy a president, or a bunch of characters going into the Watergate Hotel, for heaven knows what reason, to find out what Larry O'Brien's saying on the telephone? It seems to me we are talking about a huge, huge possibility here - not a possibility but a near-certainty - that the whole FBI organization ... an agent comes up to the White House to talk to our guys in confidence, they go back and write up a report, the reports come up to Mark Felt and then the stuff shows up on the front page of the Washington Post 48 hours later. That's a good way to bring down a president."

"This ought to frighten the daylights out of anyone."

2. Buchanan can STFU already.

Even my reich-wing hometown newspaper ("The Republican") said Felt did the right thing. Buchanan is a crazy radical that was helping to destroy democracy. Lock that mf up with all the rest of the criminals.

edit typo dammit

4. Wow, really?
That's surprising. I think he did too. Buchanan is crazy and needs to get over it. As the rightwingers tell us so much. It was thirty years ago and the guy was a hero in that case. God bless him.

5. It's easy to look at bush and the neocons
and think "Pat Buchanan isn't that bad". But he fucking is. Don't ever forget that.

8. Buchanan is playing a role within the Republican Party
he's one of the conservitive standard bearers and he's doing his part to reiterate the myth of the "evil liberal media," blaming the entire Watergate scandal on the Washington Post colluding with Felt to bring down the president. He's making the Washington Post out to be an all-powerful evil force who opposed the president and made his downfall happen.

It's interesting to see how he plays his role.

6. I think you meant "dissembled"
Buchanan is like one of those airplanes that's been hit in a WWII movie. The farther he flies, the more parts fall off. Rivets pop out of the wings. Smoke comes out of three of the four engines. The rudder is half shot-off and crumbling.

He has been slowly but steadily losing it for the past ten years.

Peace.

7. "Disassembled" vs. "Dissembled"
Of course you are correct.

I was "punning" on Bush's use of the word earlier this week.

9. Another class by Bush on word usage and logic...

http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/blbushisms.htm

"It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of — and the allegations — by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble — that means not tell the truth. And so it was an absurd report." — George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., May 31, 2005, on an Amnesty International report on prisoner abuse at Guantanamo Bay

11. Is he disputing the facts of Watergate? Felt's motive is
irrelevant. Even if he was trying to "take down" Nixon, that doesn't change the fact that Nixon and his henchmen were felons. Most or all of the surviving Watergatians have admitted it.

12. Mr. B. sure lives in his own little world
I just wish every talking head show would stop calling on him for his sage advice. I have lots of opinions too and for the money I could be available to go on those shows. Oh wait, I couldn't either...I'm too busy working in a real job.
