3. We own those channels though..........
And as long as "women" are portrayed on those Cable Channels as "Objects" should we care? Should we care about how ALL WOMEN are portrayed?

It's a question...

5. Depends on what it is
there are things that are merely "erotic" rather than exploitative.

And yes, that deviding line is in the eye of the beholder.

6. Dividing line is "eyes of beholder." OMG...ain't that the truth...
:D but the question is...should it be? I don't know...that's why I threw it out. I have my own opinion but was looking for arguments for and agains.

But...in the end...I DO, Definitely have an opinion.

:-)'s and I was trying to post "carefully" not to ruffle feathers.

9. "Should it be?"
Well, yes if you want to maintain an open society.

Being a member of an open society means being willing to take on the skills of discerment about what is an appropriate level of stimulation (take that any way you want it) for you as an individual to have.

If we have bans or crackdowns via government regulation on certain subjects or forms of entertainment, we deny our free will as individuals to make that determination for ourselves.

And you could also insert the slippery slope argument here. If we censor sexually explicit subject matter, what else can be deemed unaccetable by community standards? How about a free press? How about certain articles pertaining to womens' health? How about talking about racism and discrimination?

Let's let society at large do what it will. We can take it or leave it, as our individual proclivities allow.

2. Is this a question or a declarative?
Why the question mark after 'Abuse'?

I'm confused.

4. It's realy a "question" cloaked in a "semi-delcarative."
Thanks for pointing that out. I wondered when I posted if it might be a point of contention...but figured "what the hell"...someone would understand what I was trying to say.

12. "the game is fixed." That might be the "truth of it."
It IS a Game to them...and they fix it for the rest of us by drawing us in and our kids in to stuff that really might not be necessary to our roles as citizens...and as for the entertainment value...where is it after a few years?

14. Thankfully in my case, I never had children
But I do pay taxes for public schools via property taxes..I personally believe that the public school system should be nationalized and uniforms made mandatory.

8. Your sentence doesn't make sense.
Do you mean, "Neither Oprah, MTV or Any Cable should abuse my body because it's my own."

Or, the last sentence is incomplete like in, "Neither Oprah or MTV or Any Cable should abuse...." Abuse what?

13. Should My Female Persona and My Body be subjected to Cable to Use?
that was my question. For ads for Sit Coms for Ophrah's "hug fests" for dissecting on the "talk shows" and "Today"/"Good Morning America," etc.

They push "body weight, depression, elation, bi-polar, post partum, heat disease, missing parents, missing grandparents, disfunctional families, rape, incest, brides gone missing, re-doing your home to please your mate, cooking when you are to busy to cook for your kids, how your busy life is starving your kids, why not working makes you feel alone as a "stay at home Mom."

All this crap is pushed on us females. And...I haven't watched the crap in five years...but I know it's out there...when I turn it on for a minute I get the hilights and then tune it out.

All is geared to make Women feel they just "aren't doing enough to be PEFECT."

It's the Fear Factor just pushed at us like the Repugs and Bush have done for over four years. BUT it's been out there for decades.

That's what I was trying to get at. Should we buy into this? Does it in the end make any of us feel better or more productive in our lives?

What about those who aren't around to catch the promo's? Those who don't work from their homes in business or are taking care of raising their kids as part of their life.

At some point we all are exposed to this marketing crap whether we avoid it or not. But who are the females who are MOST able to avoid it? Who are the Advertisers, Marketers and Celebrities who are trying to make those of us who aren't out on planes or in board rooms 24/7 feel inadequate?
