Just dumped some lefty friends-tried to give them DSM info
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 07:28 PM by freeplessinseattle
and they start their shit about how it doesn't matter what we do all politicians suck blah-de-blah so that's a good excuse to sit on their asses watching old movies all day and I'm just naive and part of the problem by supporting dem pols. You all know these type of people, the real lefty "elitists" the Nader worshippers who think that dems and rethugs are exactly the same but of course Nader would be wonderful, so what is the point of doing anything at all besides seeing all dems as evil? I know that many dem pols are centrist and as influenced by money as rethugs, but there are some that aren't,a nd I don't see what is so wrong about choosing the lesser of two evils. I'm just being realistic, but my semi friends, I see maybe once a month, aren't too hard to sever relations with. They were raising their voices and lecturing me on what life is really like, and I just lost it when I heard that ol "when I was your age" crap (I'm 33) and stormed out of there flinging DSM handbills on the floor as I left. They ran out on the porch calling for me to come back but I just can't stand their attitude, I was embarassed for a moment about my tantrum, but screw it, nothing would get through to them so who cares if they label me as overemotional, I label them snotty asshats.

Thanks for listening:)

10. oh they read it, but
said, "We already knew this, but what's the point, nothing will be done about this, so why waste our time doing an exercise in futility?"

Same attitude about Conyer's petition. How can I get through to them?

4. people who aren't political aren't LEFT or RIGHT, they are PROSPECTS
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 08:24 PM by bpilgrim
folks who say 'there AIN'T NO DIFFERENCE' should be listened to, too. and TARGETED since they, as a single demographic, CRUSH both the left and the right.

our 'leaders' need to WAKE UP and get with the program because if they maintain the status quo there will be NO republic or democracy very soon yet i see lots of potential from the cheap seats ;->

:hi:

peace

on edit: typos & philly 'grammar' (i know, still ain't right, but u get me ;->

15. I do know you can get their attention if you bring up the right
message. My stepdaughter is a wishy washy lefty, who often spurts out RW talking points that she hears on the TV, like "Arnold is a good businessman".

She doesn't like me to argue with her because she can't win the argument once I start referring to sources and she can't. She finally has to admit that she heard it someplace.

But one day I said something about our taxes should go for our domestic needs, like health care, addressing the homeless problem, etc.. She said then that if our taxes went for things like that she wouldn't resent paying them. So this is the route I have to use with her.

I still can't get her interested in voting though. She thinks the system is rigged and I honestly can't argue with her about this because I think she's right.

5. But even Nader has called for Bush impeachment
and he based his reasoning largely on the information contained in the Downing Street Minutes.

He makes a VERY compelling case for impeachment. He wrote it as an op-ed that ran in the Boston Globe earlier this week. There were lots of DU threads talking about it.

6. I feel your pain
I am in my 50's and I hear that crap from the same group of all ages....They are still depressed after the election...bwaah ha...boo hoo. It is all for naught. I am with you I am sick of hearing it. If they want to sit around whining while their rights are disappearing so be it. But don't waste my time. I have a democracy to save and I am going to fight till they tear the Bill of Rights and Constitution from my cold dead hands. Stick with survivors my friend, you don't need to listen to that BS for one minute. Hang with people who have morals, principles and the balls to defend them. You did the right thing, now they actually have to think about it.

8. It's easy to be self-righteous when you never do anything but....
bitch.

Some Dems are pretty terrible, but, by and large, I'd take a mediocre Democrat over a decent Republican anyday. I live in AZ now and I would never vote for John McCain - unless his Dem opponent had an arm growing out of his head or something - and he's a relatively tolerable Republican as far as those guys go.

BTW, I lived in Seattle from fall '99 to fall '01. Was a Video Production major at the Art Institute of Seattle. Wouldn't mind going back sometime soon. Maybe for good.

9. Give them a copy of this:
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0531-23.htm

It's Ralph Nader calling for Bush's impeachment... Then have them go to John Conyers' website and sign the petition.

12. We have to support the politicians who are making a difference.
There are a few. Not many, but a few.

My ultimate goal is to vote out the Repub-lites. If we can get the message out and if our votes are properly counted, this can eventually be done. I've toyed with the idea of leaving the Dem Party. I might even do it. But as long as John Conyers, Kucinich, Boxer and a few others have a bit of spark, I'm going to pour on the fucking gasoline and see if I can light a goddamn fire under the Dems who aren't doing their jobs.

13. Your "handle" cracks me up!!!
I love it!!!

Listen. You are stronger than you comprehend. People have limits and can only handle so much "reality" especially if that reality melts their illusions/delusions. You have been exposed to a "reality" that a LOT of folks don't know about and prefer to avoid because it's just too damned painful.

Your friends are NOT "snotty asshats",...they are human beings,...just like you. YOU hold precious facts that are intimidating to them and THEY resist facts which disturb their sense of security.

Don't run away from them. Grab them, hug them, tell them your concerns about their future, our future. They are your friends,...treat them as friends.

16. There is a huge difference between the neocons and others. I don't
know why some people insist that moderates are the problem.

Many people who supported Nader the last time came out against supporting him this past election.
