The Downing Street Memo And Impeachment Get A Fair Hearing on RADIO
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 02:32 PM by BigBearJohn
Last night, Alan Colmes discussed the Downing Street Memo and impeachment for at least the second time on his radio show. It's not often that I can say an issue about the Bush Administration is presented in a truly fair and balanced way on Fox but this one was.

The two guests were Kevin Zeese, of DemocracyRising.us and co-author with Ralph Nader of an article called The 'I' Word, and Carl Limbacher of NewsMax.com.

For those who don't already know, the so-called Downing Street Memo summarizes a meeting between Tony Blair and his top security team in which the head of the British Secret Intelligence Services reported that Bush had already decided to remove Saddam by force months before presenting the plan to the Congress and that the Bush Administration had decided to "fix the intelligence" around the policy.

Kevin Zeese said that we need an inquiry in order to find out more. He thinks there is enough evidence at this point for a resolution of inquiry, a prelude to impeachment. He said only one congressperson is needed to make the resolution. He also said that we are starting to see Republicans like Walter Jones, from North Carolina, who coined the term "freedom fries" in the capital cafeteria, now saying Bush misled us into war.

1. Maybe Walter Jones should have been paying attention ...
to Hans Blix, Scott Ritter, etc. instead of renaming sliced potatoes in the capital cafeteria! :eyes:

3. I just heard Colmes' schmuck-tastic cohort
Sean Hannity talking about the memo on his radio show. He said it doesn't prove a thing, and that he is outraged that the 'left leaning media' is even daring to bring up this piece of liberal propoganda. That fact by itself doesn't bother me, no one would ever expect him to reply otherwise. What bothers me are the legions of self professed 'moderate' or social repubs that hang on this idiots every word.

As for why I was listening, well, evidently I have something of a masochistic streak.

Damn I should have had his show on to hear that. I was wondering how they would try to explain it away.

I listen to that can of paint too. One of the funniest things on radio these days.

that Bush lied and continues to lie, all those pus-bags who insist on supporting the lie will be tarred by the same brush and will lose credence. Welcome to DU!

17. Al Franken, Yesterday, June 2nd I think, brought it up with Howard Fienman
And since Fineman is manstream and would tow the Corp. Media line (why does it matter now?) did not totally dismiss it but said Impeachment would be unlikely!! I was impressed that Franken even brought it up with Mr. Fineman it showed some hutspa ( ? SP sorry not Jewish dont know the yiddish spelling)

and yes it is an impeachable offence.

22. Usually spelled in English "chutzpah" - and he's definitely got it.
Sort of arbitrary because the Hebrew letters don't directly translate into an obvious English spelling. I'm not Jewish either but I love the Yiddish terms that so perfectly describe personality traits and other essentials and aren't covered so pithily in English. If you are interested, check out a copy of Leo Rosten's old classic, "The Joys Of Yiddish." It's probably in your library. It's sort of a dictionary - but more.

23. I wonder at what point the news people will start joining the bandwagon?
The evidence of corruption and massive crimes by this administration is so great that when it becomes clear that suppression isn't going to hide it all - thanks partly to us internet acivists!!! - I think there is going to be a shift. Who wants to be seen to be on the sides of the criminals? And it will be one sensational exposee after another. There is no end of their crimes.

to stop allowing the propaganda to go on without loud and clear counterspeech. They are lying and brainwashing our country, trying to turn it into some kind of Orwellian nightmare, and it's time to fight back with the truth.

29. Or just start protesting our TV
stations on a daily basis. A map of the TV stations and addresses throughout the country would help. If we stand outside of the stations every day with signs,they and the people would catch on.

30. It may well come to that. In addition to the suppression of the real news
and the lies about what the Bush admin is doing, there is such massive propaganda for the GOP. The new darling is the probably 2008 GOP prez candidate, John McCain:

28. This is good news
If a republican Congressman like Mr. Jones can claim that Bush mislead him maybe this whole thing isn't impossible after all. Wasn't he one who was for the whole "freedom fries" stuff? I thought I read that in another thread someone made with him talking about this. I think there are a lot of moderate republicans who are left in Congress and the Senate who want to do something but are too afraid. As Rhandi Rhodes always says: the democrats are born leaders and republicans are followers. There has to be someone who can help with this. Now that Conyers has his petition that's growing and Kerry is going to talk about it maybe things can start to happen. Does anybody know why Conyers hasn't brought up impeachment papers? Maybe he's trying this strategy first and has a plan all laid out.

"gfl46 and trb, I know you're Rush Limbaugh listenin' republicans and all - and with all due respect, it seems to me you're being Bush admin apologists - big time.

1. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield are "neocons". Do you know what a "neocon" is? They are people who want to militarily democratize the middle east to build a wall of democratic states around Israel. It really amazes me how little most professed republicans know about neoconservativism, and the neocon agenda. If you want to learn more about it, I suggest this link from the Christian Science Monitor. It's a quick, easy read. http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neocon101.html
Take the interactive "quiz". It's fun. It will tell you if you're really a neocon of not.

Personally, I think it's the radical, stupid strategy of naive idiotic idealogues, which is doomed to fail - and worse, cost thousands (millions?) of people their lives. It will doom the US to a perpetual war for perpetual peace scenario.

2. Rumsfield, Cheney and other high-ranking members of the Bush administration were signers of the radical and controversial, Project for a New American Century (the PNAC document), which was presented to Clinton. This is a neocon proposal/manifesto (of sorts) which requested massive military build-up, and re-working of the military to execute the neocon agenda. In that document, it cites the need for a "new Perl Harbor" to expedite their agenda. Or, one can easily (and should) interpret this as "we need a reason to invade the middle east". (Not to brag, but as soon as it was established that a middle east terrorist was responsible for 911 - I knew with 100% certainty, we were going into Iraq. It was that obvious, if you're up on neoconservativism. I bet Wolfowitz, Rummy, Cheney, and Kristol were doing heel-kicks and drinking champagne on 911...)

3. Paul O'Neill - the Bush appointed Secretary of the Treasury, comes out and states - outright, in The Price of Loyalty that Bush had an obsession with regime change in Iraq. It was a priority before the 911 tragedy. Likewise...

4. Richard Clarke in Against All Enemies, cites how Bush turned his attention toward Iraq despite their being little evidence to support Bush's overstated claims of Iraq's danger and capability.

5. Bush cites a known forged doc claiming Iraq's attempted purchase of Nigerian yellow cake. Powell cites aluminum tubes... etc, etc, etc...

6. No WMDs found in Iraq... (doh!) Bush took a calculated risk. I think he thought they would find "something" - even a handful of chemical weapons not destroyed so he could justify the war. Hans Blix and others involved with the UN weapons inspection had stated all along the Hussein was clean.

6. Now we have the Downing Street Memo from the HEAD of BRITISH SECURITY(!) claiming:

"Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

7. 1600-1700 of our military men our now dead due to the lies of this despicable man, George Bush. Tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians are dead - many children, due to the lies of this despicable man, George Bush. Tens - perhaps hundreds of thousands of people are suffering the horrible consequences of war - lost limbs, blindness, severe burns, horrible injuries, psychological damage due to the lies of this despicable man, George "Iraq, Saddam" Bush and the FUCKING IDIOTIC neocon agenda.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C'mon, guys - I mean jesus christ, how much are you willing to overlook??? It's un-f'n-believably obvious at this point! This is all due to the DESPICABLE, COWARDLY, IDIOT IDEALOGUE you elected, the neocon agenda - which most republicans aren't even aware of, and their fucking lies.
These are evil, ruthless, brutal, and cowardly me. Want to support them? Be my guest. I don't see how you can look at this situation we're now in, thanks to drunk, coke-snortin', weed token asshole POTUS - who can't even complete a freakin' sentence without sounding like an idiot, and not be outraged.
How long are you gonna keep giving this idiot a pass?
