Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 10:45 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
He asked Charlotte Church "WHat state is Wales in?" http://www.examiner.ie/breaking/story.asp?j=167555035&p=y6755585x&n=167555921&x=

He asked Condi if there were Black People in Brazil. http://www.sfbayview.com/061202/haveblacks061202.html

He's a stupid motherfucker. <Sam Kinnison scream> I wouldn't hire the man to remove dirt from under the foreskins of three day dead winos!!!!! </scream>

Question(s): What does that make the people that voted for him?

What does that make the people that put this bozo in "power?"

What does this mean for the future of the world?

The man makes Dan "A mind is a terrible thing to have/potatoes" Quayle look like Stephen fucking Hawkings.

Helen Thomas Snubbed at Bush Press Conference

Lots of people wondered where veteran reporter Helen Thomas was last night during President Bush's press conference. Here's the answer:

A long-running Washington tradition apparently ended last night when, for the first time in memory, the doyenne of the White House press corps was not called on in a presidential press conference.

Syndicated columnist Helen Thomas, who has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, was relegated to the third row in last night's East Room event and — if the memory of press corps veterans is accurate — received her first presidential snub.

One reporter who has covered the past six presidents said: "I don't remember a press conference in which didn't get a question."

For many years, it was a tradition for Mrs. Thomas to ask the first question at White House news conferences and end them by saying, on behalf of the press corps, "Thank you, Mr. President." However, in recent years, her influence has waned — although she was still afforded one of the first questions and continues to enjoy a front-row seat at regular White House briefings.

Also snubbed was Mike Allen of the Washington Post.

44. Not sure but here's some blowback from HT
<snip>
"I censored myself for 50 years when I was a reporter," said Thomas, who is now a columnist for Hearst News Service. "Now I wake up and ask myself, 'Who do I hate today?'" Her short list of answers seems not to vary from war, President Bush, timid office-holders, a muffled press and cowed citizens, pretty much in that order.

Angered by what she views as the Bush administration's "bullying drumbeat," Thomas referred early and often to her own hatred of war, quoting from poets and politicians to bear down on President Bush and his colleagues.

Winston Churchill, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Louis Brandeis, George Santayana, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. all made appearances in Thomas' sweeping portrayal of what she sees as the administration's betrayal of both the character and will of the American people and the principles of democracy.

"I have never covered a president who actually wanted to go to war. Bush's policy of pre-emptive war is immoral - such a policy would legitimize Pearl Harbor. It's as if they learned none of the lessons from Vietnam," she said to enthusiastic applause.

7. And he thinks disassemble means to tell lies.
From the latest www.tomdispatch.com newsletter

Tomgram: Nick Turse on the Rummy Watch

<snip>

The President and Vice President, in fact, stopped hardly short of declaring Amnesty a terrorist organization. But then that's their verbal style, which can be summed up as: Reality, to hell with it! Or: You can have reality, we've got the jails!

From Amnesty's point of view, who could ask for better publicity? From the point of view of the rest of the world, these blurbs are like gold, confirming the accuracy of the Amnesty report. (After all, people only scream when it hurts.)

Of course, even in such moments of fabulous (as in some grim fable) departures from the world as it is, one often finds a glimmer of truth -- the odd verbal stumble or Freudian slip sometimes telling us more than whole interviews. The President, for instance, offered this little gem in his attack on the Amnesty report at his recent news conference:

"In terms of the detainees, we've had thousands of people detained. We've investigated every single complaint against the detainees. It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of -- and the allegations -- by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble -- that means not tell the truth. And so it was an absurd report. It just is."

I tend to think the explanation put forward by some DUers who explain the Bush malapropism as being caused by Bush incorrectly hearing his prompter through his ear piece might have some validity. The theory goes that the prompter would have said "dissemble" and knowing that that there was a good chance Dubya wouldn't know the meaning, he/she explained for Dubya's benefit that it meant to not tell the truth. Dubya, probably not being familiar with the word "dissemble," thinks he heard "disassemble" and then repeats the words of the prompter behind the curtains and explains for the benefit of his befuddled audience that "disassemble" means to not tell the truth.

9. How pathetically sad
and hilarious! Especially this part from Church:

<Welsh singing star Charlotte Church branded US President George Bush “a right weirdo” and opera legend Pavarotti a “big fat diva”, it was reported today.

The singer took a swipe at the famous men during an appearance on Glasgow-based Clyde 1 radio to promote her new single, Crazy Chick.

Church, 19, said gaffe-prone Bush had no idea where Wales was when she met him after performing for outgoing President Bill Clinton in Washington in 2000.

“Clinton was lovely, in tune with everyone else, but George Bush just hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing,” she said, according to the Daily Record.

“He asked me what state Wales was in. I said: ‘It’s its own country next to England, actually Mr Bush.’

“If he doesn’t know the rest of the countries in Europe, he could at least know what’s in his own country. I’m really worried about it. He’s a right weirdo.”>

Oh and Church is a wonderful vocalist. I love her singing. Now I like her even more. :D

I know he's made some "iffy" statements lately (could be to cover his ass), but I think I read some time ago that he was the actual "front man" for this group. This was done so that the name BUSH couldn't be traced to that group.

I don't know the status now, or if the Bushies have owned up to their culpability, but Baker was one of the REAL hot movers and shakers since FOREVER!

Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 10:08 AM by Pacifist Patriot
Basically it's a headline comment only, with no content in the full text box. It took me awhile to break my habit of ending headlines with either (m) for message/more or (nt) for no text. In alot of other on-line forums you don't have this handy dandy outline AND embedded display capability. (m) and (nt) save time by letting people know if they should bother opening the entire post or not. "eom" is the same courtesy.
