Politcal Art -- would this make a good bumper sticker?
The image is from a new oil painting -- I thought if the meaning is obvious enough at a glance, it might make a nice bumper sticker. What do you think? Would you put this on your car? Any better suggestions for the text? Or do you think it misses the mark?

Thanks for any input,
Genie

4. Awesome Message! WELCOME!
Only one note, The text colors may make it a bit hard to read, especially at a distance. Other than that, Excellent!!!

11. Believe me...
There is no better feeling of satisfaction when I see a freeper bouncing up and down in their seat, cursing, arms waving around, while they contemplate how much their life truly sucks. Realy, that's the feeling I get. A few weeks back, someone actually had to stop and glare at me... I just gave them a big "Oh I know, I know it must be sad knowing you suck... but that's okay, because I am just better than you and your family" type of grin.

Actually, I am not that mean, but they have no sticker that can compete. This is the "nuclear option" of bumper stickers. There's nothing they have in their entire line that can compare. Nothing they have will make me as mad as they get when they see this. This is, as I called it, the "big gun" of bumper stickers. It drives them absolutely crazy and no matter what "No Oil for Liberals" sticker they put on their SUV, they simply can't get the best of mine.

It really is worth every cent to watch them squirm. It's a guilty pleasure, for sure -- but I admit, I don't really feel guilty pissing them off.

6. the blue text is a little dark for the background
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 11:24 PM by SlavesandBulldozers
you could recolor the background (just immediately behind the blue text or entirely). the message, to me, is also a bit confusing and disjointed.

war is certainly not peace, but I don't believe the people you are trying to reach understand Orwell, so you might simplify it a bit for the masses. (Know your audience, then again I'm in Florida so I tend to dumb stuff down to deliver a message yukyuk)

also you should probably unify the color of the text into one neutral color - or black or white. and you certainly don't need to try to match the colors of your wonderful painting because that causes your eye to not really have any focal points on the whole piece, and in fact detracts from the vibrance of the painting.

I very much like the painting. i hope you don't consider my criticisms to be negative, I like your art - and I just hoped to convey what little I know about design.

8.  a suggestion which may, or may not, make sense.
perhaps a question mark after,

FREEDOM

on the march ?

and an exclamation point after

WAR IS NOT PEACE! like that

might accenctuate the message even more...

(but also, i wonder, would it take away from the drawing to the left of the words?)

I am not sure but just putting this suggestion out there in case it works and you want to use it.

9. Excellent!
It is superb as it stands. If given the opportunity to modify it, I prefer an Orwellian twist:

Freedom
On the March
War is Peace

Maybe that reading defeats the purpose chosen for the bumper sticker, but it was the first thought that crossed my mind. :)

10. It's artistic, but perhaps too subtle for a bumper sticker...
The "War is not peace" in a small font blue on black is going to be hard to read, and while I like the oil painting, I'm not sure what it is supposed to symbolize, or how it relates to the text.

13. Thanks everyone for the advice!
I'll rework it with simpler colors.

Some of the other suggestions focus on exactly the things that concerned me -- that I'm trying to say too many things, that the message of the art wouldn't be clear, etc.

Got to get my son in bed -- I've let him stay up way too late. But I'll check back in tomorrow if there are any more ideas.

Thanks,
Genie

14. I was just re-reading this thread, and I hope I didn't come off too
harsh -- it's late and my taste in bumperstickers is more "in your face".

15. No worries
No problem, lectrobyte. I didn't think you were harsh at all, and I appreciate the input. Bumper stickers probably aren't the best forum for subtlety.

from a few feet.
