Winger ruminates on 12,000 dead in Iraq

12,000 DEAD

The Lancet deathwish community might find this estimate a little on the low side:

Violence in the course of the 18-month-long insurgency has claimed the lives of 12,000 Iraqis, Interior Minister Bayan Jabr said Thursday, giving the first official count for the largest category of victims of bombings, ambushes and other increasingly deadly attacks.

Sad to say, but some folks will actually be upset that this number isn’t massively higher.

Sadder to say that some jerk thinks 12,000 dead isn't massively high in itself. Saddest to say that some jerk thinks this is a death rate the US can be proud of.

1. The "Iraqi Interior Minister" is hardly a reliable source.

2. Of course, but this isn't about the accuracy of the number.
It's about the hypocrisy of a winger presuming to read the minds of the left, seeing a mote in the left's eyes without taking out the log in his own eye first.

8. Definitely. I just pointing out that the "log" in the eye of the U.S. and
the Iraqi puppet government are a lot bigger than he was admitting.

3. Well, let's do a little quick math...
18 months = appx. 547 days

12,000 / 547 = 21.937 or we'll just say 22 dead per day.

Does that sound right?

4. That specifies those killed by the insurgency.
That doesn't count those killed by US bombings and shellings and military operations.

The total could still be easily within reach of 100,00 -- and that estimate was made more than six months ago.

How many "insurgents" were killed in Fallujah? How many died as collateral damage? And across the rest of the country?

Over 30,000 Iraqis were killed just in the actual invasion. Not that rightwingnuts give a shit; mention to a rightwingnut that in fact the Iraqis hate us and want us the hell out of their country, and the rightwingnut will respond with "we should just nuke em".

Have I ever mentioned how much I despise rightwingnuts?

Edit:

Iraqis killed; During the 6 weeks of "major combat" in March–April 2003:

30,000 (estimate by General Tommy Franks)

Around 124,000 U.S. troops believe they killed one or more Iraqi combatants in 2003.

Iraqi civilians killed; 36,533 during March-October 2003 An actual body count.

And 2 years later only 12,000??? I don't think so.

6. Easy explanation for this
Wingers feast on human carrion. More dead = more to eat.

No surprise here.
