Militant Southern Baptists riot after Bible is pissed on by Arabs |
|
Well, not really...
But, it does bring up the FACT that we as a country have LOST any moral high-ground in this so-called "war on terror" and the cause of 9/11 is becoming more understandable given our STUPID, RACIST, & CRIMINAL actions in Cuba.

I don't remember any riots then because of this. Not one. Do you?

4. Because NO ONE HEARD ABOUT IT... rense.com isn't exactly major media. |
|
Now, if you have CNN showing Muslims wiping their asses with the Bible...I can GUARANTEE YOU that there would be outbreaks of ethnic violence (a la month immediately post-9/11) and pushes by rabid Christian fundamentalists to instigate military action.

7. Note that the original article |
|
was from Washinton Times, not from rense.com. Same articles were printed in major newspapers at the time. rense.com is the only place that I could find this now after a quick google. I added a couple more links to the post.

Washington Times is just rense.com or Drudge with a better budget.

20. Of course you chose to misunderstand |
|
my point. It was not that your story of Christian riots was not true - that was obviously satirical.
The point is that with the same desecration of holy symbols, Christians (not just in the United States, but anywhere in the world) did not riot. Muslims did.

10. Ummm, no. I think not, Mr. Chomsky. |
|
Look, I recognize that what has happened at Gitmo is unacceptable, but the idea that this completely obliterates our moral authority in the WOT is absurd.
Are you seriously sympathized with the terrorists? Do you really think America is running a gulag?

13. Hmmm...let's see. Iraqi boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib for one. |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 01:52 AM by AngryWhiteLiberal
Detainees being beaten and KILLED IN CAPTIVITY.
Shipping prisoners off to foreign countries for TORTURE.
EXECUTIVE BRANCH memos on how to circumvent the Geneva Convention and allow things like "water boarding" (forced hypoxia).
General sexual perversion and RAPE BY US PERSONNEL in Iraq.
100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths (including innocent women and children).
Desecrating the practices of religion practiced by close 1/2 the individuals on the Earth.
...you know, you're right. I can't see why anyone would want to strike out against our fine country. Why would anyone harbor hate for our policies?
GET A FUCKING CLUE.

14. You speak as if this is a set policy, as if this is a widespread program |
|
for U.S policy. Look, Bush f'd up. We all know this. There is a big difference between allowing a lapse in leadership to occur that leads to a pattern of uncharacteristic abuses, and a set policy of torture, or deliberate strikes against civilians.
The shit that went down at abu Gharib is a mess, and it hurts our efforts in the WOT. The Gitmo incidents, ditto.
However, to come off thinking as you do, requires one to ignore all the good things America has done, and that my friend, is absurd.

16. Gonzalez is one of those responsible for lack of a clear policy. |
|
The offical policy is not to torture, but if Gonzalez has his way, who knows. Gonzalez is not the entire military chain of command, or the American people.

17. Apparently, you haven't travelled outside the US... |
|
Accident or not...a few "bad apples" or not...the FACT EXISTS that the US is currently viewed as a NEGATIVE FORCE in this world by a large majority of non-US peoples. I travel to Europe quite a bit, and I can unequivocally say that we are viewed as an out-of-control power by the Western Europeans and as infidel/Crusaders by those in the Middle East.
What's absurd is your idealism for a Norman Rockwell America, which not longer exists, and how this idealism has clouded your eyes to the truth that our country "reaps what we sow."
9/11 was horrible, but isn't 100,000 civilian deaths in Iraq also a tragedy? Or, do lives of "those people" not equal the lives of Americans? Are they lesser beings because they are not American? Do their opinions and views of the US matter not in an increasingly internationalized world?

22. I know how we're viewed around the world. |
|
I know our image is shot. That's why we need to deal with these abuse and torture issues. I'm just saying we ought not think of ourselves as actually being what our enemies think we are.
Yes, all the deaths of innocents in Iraq are horrible. I'm just saying there is no justification for 9-11.

21. OK, War on Terrorists. |

We are engaged in a war against the terrorists that threaten the U.S, and the free world. BTW, Poverty is a noun.
Of course, you could be a libertarian, and thus no fan of the WOP, either.
