Holy crap. Our side's problem is finally summed up in one paragraph.
From Daily Howler. There isn't ONE Democratic pundit or public official on TV that doesn't meet this description except maybe Howard Dean.

Can anyone think of ONE?

<snip>

To all appearance, they simply don’t care—except about their “brilliant life-styles,” their dinner parties, their bloated salaries, their kitchen renovations, their fast muscle cars, the square footage of their neighbors’ McMansions, their Hollywood scripts, their endless string of pointless novels, and of course, their face-time on TV. In short, simply put, these people aren’t liberals! There’s nothing wrong with that, of course—until they make their way on TV, pretending to speak for that side.

1. Just about everyone on Air America Radio
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 03:49 PM by eleny
AAR folks are on on tv once in a while. And Bernie Ward of KGO who's on Blitzer once in a while, too. I think that characterization is more wingnut lies.

Edit - to add Greg Palast to my list.

2. They're hardly ever on
I'm talking the permanent or frequent MSRWM pundits. Not one liberal believer in the whole crowd.

3. Remember Kerry got beaten up for suggesting
they raise taxes on the rich? People kept pointing out, "He IS the rich!" as if it was such an astonishing idea that he would raise his own taxes for the good of the nation. Are people becoming incapable of thinking someone would do something for an unselfish reason? are people proud of president bush for having the "courage" to cut his own taxes? Is this what we've come to?

7. raising taxes for the rich
that sounds like a Republican rant........

there was a similar discussion on Real Time this season. Martin Short was on and he said he was in favor of increasing taxes on the rich. There was a Republican on who questioned that Martin would be increasing his own taxes. He agreed that yes, he would be in favor of paying more money if it was good for the country.

Republicans just don't understand that kind of thinking. They seem to have no regard for what is good for the country. Everytime it looks like a democrat might be elected, the first thing you hear is 'taxes will be raised' as if that's the most important thing. To me, I don't mind paying more taxes if it will make the country safer.

6. sheep w/out a shepherd
distasteful as it might sound, to work, the herd needs a shepherd or it will become lost....using biblical xian references might piss off many, but there is logic involved and it operates like this: until about the 60's our ideas of things were predicated upon there being a god, and while the 'god' of those times was an old white guy in the sky, very strict about honesty and so on (positively manic about xxx of course) nevertheless the society sorta worked (we at least had the decency to pretend the 1st nations were 'savages' who really just roamed around w/out homes etc, nature was dirty and had to be conquered and our dominion over nature meant using the resources up was very godly etc)...however, since the 60's also transformed colonialism, women's role in society, and race/civil rights etc the idea that god was an old white pervert who freaked when kids masturbated, or when some people felt more comfortable loving someone of same sex, or stores opened on sunday, changed too....and before anyone noticed, the assholes who ripped off the 1st nations and carved the world up into colonies while terrorising everybody (except themselves) to be and do exactly like they said the old testament demanded were suddenly using god and christ to claim moral righhteousness (while in fact they were just stealing the silver etc)...the problem is that now there is no standard that a god once provided, and even worse the men who yell 'goddam you fukking all to hell...!' etc are the so called 'christians' and religious fundies. no matter how idealistic the democratic leadership is, they must believe that the law isn't just a billy club to beat poor people with, or they retreat into selfishness.....and that's probably what happened not that they're any less thoughtful then you or i....
