Southern Baptist missionary "faces W. Europe's anti-American bias"
(AgapePress) - A Southern Baptist missionary stationed in Western Europe says there is definite anti-American sentiment in that part of the world, which makes his job of spreading the gospel even more difficult.

Chad, who prefers to be identified only by his first name, is a Christian missionary stationed in Madrid, Spain. However, he works with the children of missionaries from all over Western Europe and, in the course of his work, encounters a plethora of opinions and attitudes about America.

"My Spanish friends tell me that all Americans are very arrogant," Chad says. "No matter what their religious background, no matter if they're pro-government, anti-government -- they're all just arrogant."....

"That may be a backlash for our political policies, if you will," Chad speculates, (Note: DUH!) "or that may be just because the U.S. is 'the superpower,' or whatever." But regardless of the reason for the hostile sentiments, the Southern Baptist missionary hopes he can help in some small way to assuage them while he serves in Western Europe as an ambassador for Christ and -- unofficially -- for America.

1. The very fact that he's there
in SPAIN, a Christian country long before America was discovered, being a missionary...should tell him something!

I did have a great moment last week at a field trip. Everyone had to see my new bumperstickers...

My oval "No W" Sticker and below that my "you can't kill for peace" sticker.

6. Gee whiz, Chad, maybe you should be trying to convert
people who weren't raised in Christian countries!

After all, the world is full of countries that don't speak either Germanic or Romance languages, and a goodly number of the citizens of those countries are still heathen.

Or is the problem that you chose Europe because you thought it would be safer than going into Saudi Arabia or Iran, where they have laws against fresh faced young things who tell their citizens their own religion is crap.

Converting people who were raised hearing the Christian party line from infancy onward is an uphill battle, Chad, and my guess is that you're not nearly as good at it as the nuns and priests most of them knew in their childhoods were. Plus, it's a little insulting to try to evangelize people who've already heard what you're selling and have chosen not to buy, or have bought into a sect you're not part of.

So, Chad, why not consider coming home, finding a sweet little doormat, and settling down to life the fundy dream right here at home? I think you've annoyed people in western Europe sufficiently to please any god.

(said in my best republican-like voice)..

Sounds like they ain't buyin' what he's sellin'..

It always amazes me how the "missions" seem to be in some pretty spiffy places.. When I was a travel consultant, one of my clients was a Christian family singing group (yeh, I know!)..anyway. they always managed to arrange their gigs (deductible of course) to the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Bahamas..in Jan, Feb & March.. (we were near Chicago).
They either chartered or flew first class..always stayed in top-notch hotels..

15. He should be in Iraq defending the policies of his masters!
Just another Kompassionate, Konservative, Kandy-ass, abroad stirring up shit and making America look even more stupid and pushy to the civilized world, than the neocons have already made us look!

Let him go and walk in the "lion's den" that Bush has created in Baghdad, if his faith is so strong! There are thousands of people in Iraq that could use some real compassion and LOVE! I always thought that Jesus was all about LOVE! If you listen to the TV preachers though, you'll soon see that today's Christ is about MONEY or the LOVE of MONEY! Jesus would not only weep today, he would vomit!

16. Couldn't have anything with you promulgating The Only Truth? Chad?

Did you ever consider that maybe the Spanish didn't want you or your brimming confident self-assurance that you're going to save them from the corrupt clutches of the "Maryists"? After all, we know that Southern Baptists view the Catholic Church in exactly that light.

Did you ever consider that maybe the Spanish, like most of the people in the world, don't particularly care for people like you, People Who Have It All Figured Out Because The Preacher Said So?

Did you ever consider that your presence there is an implicit way of saying that the Spanish are deluded victims of lies and doomed to hellfire? After all, that's what it comes down to, and I grew up in an extremely Southern Baptists town, so I know what I'm talking about.

Oh, and lots of luck, Chad. :puke:

It's no wonder people look at him and think- I don't even want to talk to you- you're revolting.

I think that, and I still live in the states and all family comes from the south!
