New PIPA report. 23 countries : US & Russia NEGATIVE INFLUENCE
QUOTE:
A public opinion poll across 23 countries finds that in 20, a majority (17) or a plurality (3) of citizens think it would be mainly positive for Europe to become more influential than the US in world affairs. Currently, Europe is seen as having a mainly positive influence in the world in 22 countries. Among specific major countries, the one most widely viewed as having a positive influence is France, —viewed positively in 20 countries. The countries most widely viewed as having a negative influence are the US (viewed negatively in 15 countries) and Russia (14 countries).

Britain and China Mostly Viewed Positively

The US is seen as the MOST NEGATIVE!?!? Worse than RUSSIA? And CHINA is viewed POSITIVELY?!?! :wtf:
and the MOST positive is our former friend FRANCE?

Remember right after 9/11, EVERYONE was an American?

I'd say PNAC foreign policy is failing miserably.

1.  Only Bush
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 04:50 PM by fujiyama
could make the US more hated than China and Russia.

Then again that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Bush made Saddam look sympathetic to the world's eyes as well.

2. If I read it correctly Russia is still the worst, but ...
only slightly ahead. Is Bush having some PR problems??

The result for China is worrying though. Let's be honest, China still the world's biggest gulags and most human rights violations. Maybe they have better PR after all. The should be the worst IMO

3. 14 countries viewed Russia negatively, 15 viewed USA
negatively.

I agree. I think China is making progress, but they are still guilty of plenty of human rights violations.

Well, of course, so is B*.

I still find this deeply disturbing.

4. Somehow I misread it as well
Indeed Russia is even regarded slightly better.

Well China is still by far the worst offender. They maybe making progress, but much of the manufactoring is still being performed in laborcamps which is really disgusting, but we buy it anyhow, so nobody cares :(. It's many times worse than Russia or Bush.

But then again Bush lost all credibility since Iraq with most/all other countries. It lost all credibility with a majority of Americans. And still he is in power. That's incredible.

5. China is slightly overweighted
There were 1800 respondents from China. Most places had 800-1200 respondents, phillipines had 500 and Japan had some 1400.

This could account for some of their favorable outlook, but not very much.
