What do you think would happen if everyone at DU
wrote to John Kerry and asked him to "make us proud"
on Monday? If anything, it would let him know in
no uncertain terms that WE ARE WATCHING.

I'll now go to his blog and express similar thoughts and urge him not only 'to make us proud' but to make it clear he is going to lead the opposition to Bush and his neoconster regime.

Peace.

Good evening Senator,

On Monday, June 6, 2005, when you stand in the US Senate and speak to the issues of the "Downing Street minutes," I request that you also announce that you are going to lead millions of Americans to oppose Bush and his neoconster regime and bring them to justice.

On Wed., June 1, 2005, you asked the question "Is there a way to break through?"

Yes, Senator, a way exists to break through the corporate media's suppression of the truth about Bush and his fellow neconsters and all the lies, atrocities, damage to America and its Constitution, and destruction of civilization that they have perpetrated since Dec 9 2000.

Specifically, you should join with Congressman Conyers and urge all your fellow Democrats (and any honorable Republicans) in the US Congress to halt business-as-usual until a comprehensive, non-partisan, multi-national investigation of how Bush started his war on Iraq is underway, AND AN EXIT PLAN AND TIMETABLE TO REMOVE ALL US NATIONALS FROM IRAQ HAS BEEN ADOPTED.

Senator, you and your colleagues have made very little of the vast support you have within America and the world to stop Bush and his fellow criminals and begin the process of rebuilding 'America' -- the one that ceased on Saturday, Dec 9 2000.

Peace and thank you.
xxxx

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq, and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

10. Maybe not Monday...
Senate is in recess until 2 p.m.

I am thinking it may not be Monday that JK gets to speak on this - he said he was going to "raise the issue" when he returned to Washington on Monday. The "return to Washington" is Monday - he may not get the opportunity to speak until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Just saying, don't get too mad at him if it doesn't happen exactly on Monday. Rest assured, if he said he will raise the issue, then he will raise the issue.

I'm going to be recording C-Span from 2 pm on anyway!

19. Rec'd, and done. Here's my letter:
John,

I know you're going to make many people proud on Monday, when you discuss the Downing Street memo on the floor of the Senate on Monday.

Along with my friends at democraticunderground.com, I have been fighting for every inch with you, between the election and the inauguration (which all indications except for the "official" final results indicate should have been yours), and through the first seven months of this administration.

We have dared to speak the truth, and continued to believe in your ability to do so as well.

Monday, against all the forces who bluster and blow that we should not be focused on "old news", you will initiate the national conversation on whether or not the president was truthful, and faithful to the Constitution, when he spoke to the American people and the world, in the months before the Iraq war.

I am glad to count myself as your friend and ally, Senator.

As always, I wish you godspeed, and good luck.

Sincerely,

---------

22. Thanks Big Bear!
My post below!
Dear Mr. Kerry!

Thank you for speaking out against the Bush Administration last week.
So much has happened when Mr. Bush first stole the election in 2000 and again last year.
We have watched our country change from the most hopeful and optimistic nation in the world, to the most reviled and ridiculed during the last eight years.
I don’t need to tell you these things, as I’m sure you know more about it then I, but simply wish to add my voice to that of many others in urging you to put a stop to this devastating administration.
The time for diplomacy has passed, so please become our voice, - our own opposition leader - and express our outrage in congress at once.
We cannot afford to be dragged into more war over oil and strategic positioning in the Middle East, when our assets are owned by other nations.
You are our true-life hero; you have fought injustice for years, fight this battle for all citizens of the world!
They are watching, we are watching!
What will America do now?
Continue with their greedy ways, lies, torture and endless bloodshed?
Or will someone have the courage to demand coverage from the media, and expose these corrupt politicians?
Please join Mr. Conyers and do what you were born to do!
We support you! We will march for you, give you more money, write more letters, make phone calls; whatever it takes, we are there for you!
You reported for duty!
This is the battle of your life; please fight it!
Thank you!

28. He said this in 1971, and it still is appropriate today:

"...This is not the struggle of one day, or one month, or one year, or of one war: it's a struggle, and an effort, and a sacrifice, and a contribution which we make for the rest of our lives. And though men of small mind and less character may project themselves onto their fellow citizens, and suggest that an America that admits its mistakes will turn into a craven, hollow place, we will continue this struggle because this country is bigger than they are, and it's bigger than any of us here."

Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II--it's been the same fight for Kerry for all of these years. No reason for him to stop now. Go John!

32. You've inspired me . Here's my letter.
On Monday, June 6, 2005, you have an opportunity to stand before the Senate before our fellow citizens to demand an explanation to the Downing Street Memo. Demand that it is time this country woke up, gathered together and stopped this horrendous nightmare of an administration before they lead us into true distruction.
What they have done - lied to the American public, Senate and Congress to take our country to war- is grounds for impeachment.

You can be confident Senator Kerry, that not only will the millions of us who worked tirelessly for your election, support this effort with every inch of our souls, but also many others who are now finally beginning to come to the realization that these "Republicans" do not represent the party they say they belong to. People are angry, scared and know that they've been lied to. They are tired of their kids being killed, are frightened that a draft may be imminent and damn pissed off about the direction of our economy and our national security.

We can do this- but we need your help. We need you to join with Congressman Conyers and demand that your fellow Democrats and Republicans in the US Congress stop the proceedings and business-as-usual and demand the creation of an internationally supported, non-partisan investigation the reasons we went to Iraq - including an explanation of the Downing Street Memo. Furthermore, it is time for an exit strategedy and a time table to remove all American troops from Iraq.

On Monday June 6th, at the same time time you will be on the Senate floor, I will be having major surgery, hopefully almost in the recovery room by that time. There is nothing that would make me more thrilled, then to wake up on Monday night and hear the news that you and your colleagues have finally stood up and said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. This would be the perfect way to jump start my healing process!

Just do it! Stand up and demand answers. Make enough noise that the media has no choice but to pay attention.

Trust me Senator Kerry, your country and the entire international community will be very grateful.

We were there for you. We believe in America and with your help, hope is on the way!

Thank You

44. I did it too - great idea.
Senator Kerry,
I am thrilled about the word on the street that you will be addressing the Downing Street Minutes in the Senate on Monday. Exposing the truth about why over 1,600 American soldiers were sent to their deaths, and over 10,000 who are disabled, is the most important thing the Senate can do. Judges can wait, road improvements can wait, space programs can wait.

Nothing you have done or will do in this 109th Congress should take precedence over discovering the truth about why thousands of Iraqis and Americans are dying. If it was for power and profit, those who twisted evidence to deliberately mislead Congress and the Senate should be punished. Please make us proud by leading the effort to do so on behalf of those Americans who still believe in the truth.

Sincerely,

48. here's mine..
(Actually this one is edited... I did this at 2 am, and probably made an idiot out of myself for referring to Rep Conyers as "Senator"... doh! Well, it's the thought that counts)

Senator Kerry,

As I'm sure you're aware, Rep. Conyers has recently asked concerned citizens to join him in a bid to force the administration to come clean about the so-called Downing Street Memo and Iraq War "intelligence" that led to our decision to invade that nation.

I've lent my support by signing Rep. Conyer's petitition. I have also heard you will be making comments in the same vein when sessions resume.

My generation is paying dearly for this miscalculation... much the same as yours did in Vietnam. It is a source of ongoing frustration that we lack a strong voice that speaks to power on this matter. So many of us are counting on you to be one of these people. I beg you, call this administration to account. Urge your fellow senators to do the same.

This memo is an embarassment to those who got us to where we are now. It goes without saying anyone who mentions it (including you and Rep. Conyers) will be attacked and smeared, because such inquiry cuts too close to the truth. It is my hope that men and women of conscience in the Congress will not be cowed by such intimidation.

Thank you for your time. Please do us proud next week.

Dear Sen. Kerry,
I volunteered for you in '04, I thought you could stop our nation from becoming the horrid place it is under Pres. Bush.
Make us proud of our support. The Downing Street Memo shows we were falsely brought into an unnecessary war in Iraq. Pres. Bush's actions rise to the level of High Crimes and Misdemeanors. You were prevented from leading this country out of our downward spiral. But you can help pull us back. Challenge this President on his amoral and criminal behavior. Shout it from the highest rooftops, shame the Senate into making the President accountable.
As Bob Dylan said "Even the President of the United States mus sometimes stand naked."
Make us proud.

62. Kick.
Peace.

We have all the evidence of mendacity and illegal war-making we need to indict and prosecute Bush, Blair and every other neoconster scum-bag on the planet having any involvement in the Bush's illegal war on Iraq and all the torture and other atrocities that have been committed since August 2002.

Mr. Kerry: You Could Still Be the Leader We Need
by Cynthia Bogard

Dear John Kerry,

We've had our differences, John, but you are still our last best hope for saving the nation. We need your help to bring the truth about our nation's attack on Iraq to the attention of the American people.

Many of us in the progressive community voted for the screamer (Howard Dean) or the peacenik (Dennis Kucinich) and not you in last year's Democratic primary (could it have only been last year?). We gave our money to those campaigns and worked for them too because those men better represented what kind of leader we thought the nation needed a leader who was unequivocally against the needless attack on Iraq, a leader who would get us out while our reputation as an honorable nation was still salvageable.

But when you became the Democratic Party nominee, we gave you our all because we knew how high the stakes were; everything we treasured about this nation had been punched out and needed to be made right again.

Democracies don't engage in wars of choice. Democracies don't hold people in detention without charge or trial. Only by making the Bush Administration an anathema, only by committing to backing out of Iraq immediately in whatever way made sense for both us and the people we had attacked could America regain a chance to be the superpower that modeled democracy for the world, not aggression.

The rest is Here: http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0606-31.htm
