I am watching (for the second time) a video from "Take Back America"
with Bill Moyers. It is so effective, revealing so many different
things about our country as it exists today, that I am tempted to
transcribe the whole show so that I can share parts of it with
those at DU who don't have time to watch the whole show.

I am going to invite my whole family over next weekend and I am
going to show it to them. I am also going to invite my neighbors.

I tell you... please watch it. You won't regret it.

I did watch the entire Moyers' speech again ... and it still gives me chills. I believe it was Jim Wallis who said something like "Be the hero you're waiting for" ... a paraphrased Gandhi reference, I've been told - but effective nonetheless.

You were right. This is something that I DID need to see, I just was unaware. Why can't we form a political machine to rival the Right? Obviously, we have the requisite skilled personnel, so what's the hold up? They're pretty well-entrenched in the media, but who the hell needs the MSM? Samizdat, baby. Grass roots can be some m-i-g-h-t-y powerful stuff. You get like-minded people, Dems, Green, Libertarian, etc. from all over the country to form mini think tanks, implant talking points into the collective dialogue, dig for dirt, and just get people politically motivated in general. I, for one, believe that if voter turnout was in the 90% range, we'd trounce Rightists routinely (in fair elections) without breaking a sweat. I say, we are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. We should get off of our collective asses and collaborate, damn it!

I took a nap and during the nap I had a sad dream.
I saw all the power grubbing, greedy bastards, polluting our
environment, stealing from what little the poor has to live,
and thought, "this is a living nightmare. Who in a million years
would have thought our country could fall this far? And to have
half the population of the country thinking that we are on the
right track? Oh my God. THIS IS HELL, I thought. I died and
went to hell." What's worse? I woke up. It was not a dream.
We really have turned into an utterly debauched society. What
took me out of it was remembering that there are people like
those on DU, who give a damn. There is still hope for this
country... but I honestly don't know how much time we have
before it is irreversible. It's like the Mad Max movies came
to life or "the night of the living dead" has turned into a
reality show -- LIVE from Washington.

We have to join hands and put our minds together. We have to.
