Jerk in Chicago now sliming Krugman
Remember that guy who called us "little Ceaucescues" (however you spell that name)? Well now he's back trying to beat up on Paul Krugman:

The Newsroom Iconoclast
Paul Krugman finally gets his comeuppance
Sunday, June 5, 2005
By Michael Bowers, Star columnist

... Krugman has an impressive resume. He probably knows his economics. (I certainly don't.) But he's also the meanest Bush-hater at the Times. That's saying a lot, considering that the Times also employs Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich and formerly employed Howell Raines.

... What is surprising is that one of his colleagues — a good Democrat at that — appears to dislike Krugman just as much.

... Okrent also jabbed Maureen Dowd and William Safire, but Krugman got the worst of it. He's also complaining the loudest. According to New York magazine, Okrent says that "Krugman's been writing to me two, three times a day demanding a retraction or apology, and I'm not going to give him either."

... Krugman's weeping and gnashing of teeth remind me of the words of Whittaker Chambers: "Innocence seldom utters outraged shrieks. Guilt does."

... What is Krugman's guilt? Well, in short, he's a little Churchill. He's a little Ward Churchill, that is — the Colorado professor who called our 9-11 victims "little Eichmanns."

... See how the Krugman game works? Everything is the fault of Bush. We elect him president, and look what happens: Muslims in Malaysia start hating Jews more. Amazing. Who knew Bush had such power?

... "When he says he agreed 'reluctantly' to one correction, he gives new meaning to the word 'reluctantly'; I can't come up with an adverb sufficient to encompass his general attitude toward substantive criticism."

... This is one damning statement. And it's even more damning when you consider the context. This is the New York Times we're talking about here — the newspaper by and for the world's Bush-haters.

... The final lesson of this saga is that there are two kinds of Democrats. There are Okrent Democrats, and there are Krugman Democrats. The former are honorable. The latter are not. You know which one you are.

9. Here's where he hails from:

Star Newspapers started life in Chicago Heights in 1901. The flagship newspaper, the Chicago Heights Star, spawned new editions in the neighboring towns of Park Forest and Homewood-Flossmoor during the 1940s. In 1963 the company purchased a group of three twice-weeklies based in Harvey. In the 1970s, the company added papers in Crete and Park Forest South (now University Park), Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Matteson-Richton Park. This period also saw the introduction of papers in Frankfort, Mokena and New Lenox.

Sounds like a small, probably "free", local newspaper, and Michael Bowers is just a writer there. Nothing particularly wrong with either, but if he thinks he's bringing any "GRAVITAS" into the discussion, he's sadly mistaken. He comes across as a no-talent self-important showoff, hoping to earn some Brownie Buttons by ankle-biting a heavyweight.

unless they've magically transformed themselves in the last few years. I think I might know this guy. His name sounds familiar. I DID know a few of their reporter and they were all right-wing wannabes.

10. "Innocence seldom utters outraged shrieks. Guilt does."
If this rw hack believes the above quotation, then what does he have to say about the Busholini cabal screaming about the coverage of Gitmo?

The rest of his "piece" is pure ad hominem bullshit. As for Okrent, sure he's a Democrat as in DINO-crat. And he's jealous as hell that Krugman has intelligence and talent far beyond anything he has. Same for this two bit pencil pusher.
