Edwards: 'Send Republicans a clear message on recall day'
Saturday, September 20, 2003 Posted: 10:14 PM EDT (0214 GMT)

(CNN) -- Seventeen days before the scheduled date for an election that could result in his ouster, California Gov. Gray Davis took to the streets of San Francisco to ask potential voters for their support.

He was joined Saturday by Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, a presidential candidate and the fifth well-known Democrat to assist in the campaigning this week.

Former President Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore campaigned on his behalf earlier in the week, as did Sens. John Kerry and Bob Graham, also presidential candidates.

1. I'm waiting for the rest to come to California
I know Dean came first and I think Sharpton came out. So Cali's waiting for Clark, Lieberman, Mosely-Braun, Gephart, and Kucinich. I hope they are planning trips in the next two weeks.

2. Dennis is here today.
I'll see him tonight.

His most recent email to campaign workers (at least, my most recent!):

Dear friends,
I have repeatedly spoken out against the recall and will continue to do so. I have a number of friends who are running who are all well qualified and capable for service in high public office and I hope each one of them will get the chance, but I want to stress that I believe the recall must be defeated and I urge all my supporters in California to vote against the recall.

Dennis Kucinich

This trip is to celebrate Peace Day today; I don't know if he planned to stump with Davis. He'll be back next weekend.
