Interesting post from a hard-right repub regarding Clark and B....
I found this post revealing since it comes from someone on the far right. Not only are some on the extreme right starting to have major concerns about Iraq, but, in this persons case, also seem to think Clark could be a legitimate threat to b... Maybe the tide is turning....

"Unless Gen. Clark is a flaming liberal...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he has a great chance.
As an extreme right wing nut, even I am not happy with Bush, and I bet I'm not alone:

* Gov't is bigger than ever.

* Republican congress and pres. go on to create the largest gov't hand-out program in history

* Even though I support the action in Iraq, it is obvious that they had absolutely no post-war plans for the occupation.

My first two points will cause problems for Bush with his Base. My last point about Iraq, as well as the economy, will cause problems for swing voters. I don't think that the economy is Bush's fault. It was going down hill before he got elected (which is just a normal cycle in capitalism. The boom coudln't last forever) but your average Joe and soccer mom won't see that. Everyone seems to think that the President "controls" the economy.

If Clark can be reasonable and stay away from the fringe left, then my bet is that he's in."

8. haha
don't point me to some online poll.

rather, when clark takes the lead in iowa and nh and california (i could go on) AND when he raises more than any democrat in history AND when he attracts crowds of 10,000 and more AND when he has more than 400,000 signed up to volunteer for him, THEN, and only THEN, tell me who the former frontrunner is...

got it?

Don't give me hypothetical predictions, give me cold hard facts.

And until Dean does all those wonderful things, he is not the frontrunner.

GOT IT?

Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 02:02 PM by diplomats
I believe Dean has accomplished those things (although I'm sure he hasn't raised more money than Clinton did in '96; but newsguy could mean Dean has raised the most of any Dem challenger.)

12. Tiny correction
That was a phone poll. (I just wish Dean was doing better in head-to-head polls against Bush. Maybe you can tell me something that will reassure me?)

19. He knows it's a phone poll. This has already been discussed
Some Dean supporters just seem to want to spread disinformation or outright lies about Clark. Clark has been in the race for 4 days and he has already blown by their guy and so they are lashing out.

...but it was just as legit as any Bush approval poll Dean supporters (and all of us) cite on a daily basis.

22. And I find it so ironic (not!) that the #1 whiner about Dean bashing...
...bashed Clark in a thread that had nothing to do with Dean. :eyes:

"he" is the living example of Josh Marshall's Dean supporter:

"My own feeling is that the only real Democrats are those who will support the party's eventual nominee, end of story. There is an awfully distressing tendency among a minority of Dean supporters to serve up no end of lacerating comments about other candidates and then to react with a sort of stunned and outraged shock when anyone criticizes their guy. It's the flip side of seeing the race in such heroic, if not messianic dimensions. The primary is actually not concluded yet. And, pace John Calvin, I assume the outcome is not predetermined. So it is still permitted to criticize Mr. Dean and not be an enemy of democracy."

24. messianic dimensions
A long time DU'er who I've come to respect displayed this... it's as if all other Dem candidates are evil and only Dean and, by extenstion, his supporters can save the United States.

It's a bit unsettling, actually. To see such an imbalance in a person's perspective.. .especially since it mirrors the far-right fundies' own messianic view of Junior.

2. For a RW "nut"
the person sounds pretty reasonable. And he's kind of right about the economy being cyclical, except Bush has done nothing to improve economic conditions; the tax cuts have been a disaster.

4. You know, if there was a Repuke in from 1992-2000, and then a Dem
took over....

this RW nut would be screaming bloody murder about the economy, and how the Prez DOES control it.

Hypocritical sack of crap--but I'm glad he's getting worried. They should be, regardless of who gets the nomination.

11. Who knows why?
Yes, I've found they are willing to sacrifice many of their issues and vote D this time. But they won't do it for just any D. Last week a woman at work who is a hard core Christian fundy...really fundy, came around while we were watching Clark's Little Rock rally. When she said she was interested in Clark, I reminded her that he was pro-choice (figured she find out sooner or later) She said: "Well_you know I'm not, but I could vote for him." Huh? I'm telling you she would not cross the street for one of the other Democrats.

17. Your friends view of Clark is interesting
I think there would be a significant number of swing voters and disenchanted repubs that would vote for Clark if he gets the nomination. Frankly, I plan on voting for whoever the Democrats nominate, however, at this point, I think Clark has the best chance to unseat b... Getting a Democrat back in office is my main objective.
