Conyers' at 200K? Plus a DU MUST-READ
I've been watching Congressman Conyers' site since he originally posted his letter and it looks like they have an informal way of counting signatures.

If you go to www.johnconyers.com and look at the link tab to sign the memo, it appears as though they are incrementing the 'name' of the tab with Roman numerals... At 65,000 signatures, this was at "Downing Street Memo III". at 133K signatures it was at "Downing Street Memo IX which would seem to imply they are incrementing this counter every 20K signatures or so.

As of this moment, they are at XIX which would imply well over 200K signatures.

Also, Congressman Conyers' most recent blog entry does not give a count, so my guess is they may well have the 250K they asked for.

But let's not stop there!

In his most recent blog entry, Conyers' asks for input on the case for impeachment and he gets it from the blogger, Constant: http://constantpated.blogspot.com/2005/06/impeachment-questions-highlighting.html

This is an extremely interesting read that would answer many questions that have been posted here.

If you ask me, we ought to charge the entire administration on TREASON (see: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1828838 for the case that is laid out here), but that's just me.

Good work DU on spreading the word, and most of all, THANK YOU John Conyers!!!

7. I've been partial to "high crimes and misdemeanors". However,...
,...if there is an intention to destroy constitutional rights and liberties,...that is treason. These people seek to destroy a whole century of constitutional development by arguing that the law of the robber-barons' rule in the 1890s is the law today.

They are evil, greedy mother fuckers. Would sell their Mommas and Wifes and Children (if they fail to BOW to their masters) on a dime.

11. High Crimes and Misdemeanors
are the first step, and treason may very well be covered under this... treason is very hard to prove legally.. though I do believe we do have a case.

6. I don't see treason
as a charge that would stick. An American court would have to use the Constitutional definition of "adhering to their <the United States'> enemies, giving them aid and comfort", which would be a legally obtuse way to go about it.

Impeachment for failing to uphold the Constitution, followed by war crimes conducted by an independent tribunal would be harder to outflank.

12. WOWZA!! Just read Constant's blog
I never thought about State's rights and using that to reign in a wayward federal government. I wonder if our only hope IS a Constitutional Convention?

16. Yes, read Constant's blog, linked in the OP. It frames the impeachment
question very, very well, even before you get to the intriguing states' rights discussion.

Big thumbs up.

in a time of war.

That carries with it his own private moment before the firing squad.

19. Iraq war is crimes and misdem. but 911 crimes are TREASON
when we get the facts on what they knew and how the allowed/aided in the attacks of 911, then we'll have them for treason, but we wont get that till they are impeached for the war lies and we can get to the files!

22. There's no total proof yet of 9/11
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 12:33 AM by FreedomAngel82
So that would be bad to run on I think. Just go with the Iraq mess is what I think. Hopefully after Bush and his gang are out of office the next president can be Kerry and Edwards and they can call for a fullout investigation of 9/11 and then we can get the neocons asses. I don't believe BinLaden had anything to do with it at all. There's not enough evidence to prove it.

24. getting close to the 250k mark
I'm glad that Conyers is getting closer to the 250k. I noticed that he didn't have a request tagged on for after you sign, to list emails of people they can send to. That might've speeded up the progress of getting the sigs. It does seem as though people could be scared about signing these petitions, too. Especially if its not clear whether it will go anywhere, or will be more of a morale boost. I think a morale boost is in order right about now.
